40th anniversary party?!

Question:

40th anniversary party?

My Grandpa, mom, aunts, and myself are planning a 40th anniversary party for her and my Grandma. It is a huge surprise. This is just like a wedding reception. We are holding at a banquet hall, the attire is dressy, and there is going to be catering and a DJ. My mom, aunts, and myself, want something to be a surprise for my Grandpa also though. We are making them both a scrapbook. Any other surprise ideas to give to them? Or any other ideas on how to make this party the best one ever? Thanks in advance.

Check out a history site for the highlights of 1967: the US space program, who won the Oscars that year, sports heroes, and other big events. Enlarge the best photos from that year and use as decorations. Play the top 40 of the year; Billboard.com should have that list. Getty Photos should have some pics, ditto NASA.

To make it more special, try to find out your Grandpa's reactions to those events and maybe blow up quotes from letters, etc

you can make a dvd with all the family saying the best things about them. like that they can see it any time they want

Dear Hawaiian Girl,
It sounds like you have got things going your way. One thing you might could do is put a large photo of the two of them together with a very large mat surrounding them. Get a good writing pen and let all the guests write special things to them. Have loads of fun!

Maybe with some searching, you or your Mom, could find some of your Grandparents friends that originally stood up for them and have hem do it again. Are you planning on them renewing their vows? That would be awesome, my folks loved it! You could have a black & white themed party. Everyone wear black or white, have old b&w photos scattered on the tables. MAke sure you serve punch and cookies too. heres a gr8 punch reciepe that fairly cheap & easy!
1 4oz frozen lemonade
1 tub of rainbow sherbet { apply buy spoonsful n top}
2 large cans of juicy juice or hi-c juice
2 liters of Ginger ale.
mix well the juice, ale and lemonade garnish with the sherbet.

maybe you could track down some old friends and ask them to jot down some of their memories of your grandparents and read them at the party (if you have enough time maybe they can even videotape something...)
Is there some memory that they particularly cherish, one that you could recreate? Their first home, some trip they took together?
It sounds like you have a lovely and loving family. Have fun at the party!

Buy one of those multi picture frames. Take one group picture of all of the women. Then add a separate photo of each individual. On the back of the frame, attach a single piece of paper and have each person in the photo write a sentiment about why they love grandpa.

This way he can hang the picture frame in his favorite spot. Every time he sees it, he will remember the wonderful event and the special women in his life.

YES.. take lots of pictures.. give some throw away cameras to a few of the guests and tell them to snap away... Make sure you get the FAMILY PICTURES... and lots of them.

Have Fun

Here's something creative that will be appreciated and you will have fun doing:

Make up a crossword puzzle and have all the hints be personal inside moments and jokes that only you, they, family, and friends would know about. Put it on a poster board and add some clipart and some family/friend pictures to it!

The crossword puzzle could be time consuming and a bit frustrating ... you could do the same idea with a WORDSEARCH or WORDFIND puzzle.

Put your computer skills to work! Use Excel, get clipart from Yahoo Images Search, copy them, and reformat them, use a gluestick to put on posterboard.

Use graph paper, and pictures from magazines if you are not as good on the computer, and it will give it a homemade feeling.

This would be GREAT to put on display at the party ... put it on a huge posterboard near the scrapbook!
