Can someone give me a theme for food.?!

Question:

Can someone give me a theme for food.?

When we have meetings at work, we have potluck lunches with themes and it is my turn to pick a theme. So far we have had h'oure derves ( excuse the spelling), ukranian, chinese and breakfast/brunch. Anyone have a really good idea for my theme. And if you do, I would really appreciate it if you could give me some dishes to go with it cause there are about 15 of us. Thanks in advance.

Answers:
You can always go Mexican and do a taco buffet....have everyone bring a part,...ie...cheese, tomatoes, lettuce, sour cream, shells (soft and hard), hot sauce, black beans, meat..hamburger or chicken (or both).

Other Mexican eats:

Chips and salsa or mexicali dip.
Taco salad.
Traditional Mexican desserts.

***OR: Go with the theme of foods around the world***
Have everyone bring is something from their heritage or ethnicity. You'll have Germans, Italians, Mexicans.....

how about Mexican.......fun for all!

nachos, tacos, burritos!!!

how's about a hawiian theme?

west indian
turkish
moroccan
indian
spanish
italian

Mexican/Tex-Mex could be easy.

Guacamole
Salsa
Queso
Enchiladas
Tacos
Rice
Beans
Sopaipillas
Tres leches cake
Flan

breakfast foods
Mexican fiesta
ethnic variety
healthy foods
deserts
Pizza
Sushi
KFC

Island Style

Shrimp Cocktail, Hawai'ian Chicken or Pork, Sushi (Japan is an island) Crab Creole (Jamacian) Tropical fruit salad.

A simple search for Island recipies should take care of you.

choose a color maybe like red or green. Maybe have a pirate theme, that could be funny. SOme other ideas are Hawaiian, healthy, sandwich, favorite foods, etc.

Picnic lunch at work - red and white table clothes, etc.

Fried chicken - there is a recipe for making the coating with corn flakes(check the cereal's website) which can be served hot or cold

Mac salad, potatoe salad, cole slaw, etc.

Casaer salad

Fresh fruit

Chips/vegies and dip

Sounds yummy to me!!!

how about a fun theme called like a kid again or something about being a kid again. for example finger foods or fun foods. like french fries, pizza , pizza bites, chicken wings, chicken tender, chicken nuggets, buffalo wings, cold-cuts, and you know stuff like that.

Puttin' on the Ritz

Part of the fun of such a "themed" party is NOT suggesting recipes but seeing how creative people can be in coming up with a dish to fit the them. Some suggested themes might be "Childhood Memories" or "Favorite Dish My Grandmother Made". How about "Comfort Food" as a theme? Or, request that all dishes are prepared with one "junk food" ingredient in the recipe. You could have a "Simple Food" theme and request that people bring an item which only requires dirtying one dish in it's preparation. (Measuring soons and cups don't count as dirty dishes, but only one bowl or casserole pan is allowed to be dirtied in the prepartion!) Finally, you could have a color theme. If there are 15 people in your office, put 15 colors in a hat, written on 15 separate slips of paper (3 green, 3 red, 3 brown, 3 white and 3 yellow - or such) and have people draw a color at random. The person must bring a dish which is predominately the color they drew at random! Have fun with it and, don't suggest dishes, let people be creative and respond to your challenge!

At my work we have done:
dessert potlucks
Italian (spaghetti with garlic bread everyone brought something to make a complete meal)
subs (1 person brings buns, another cheeses, another condiments etc.)
chili cook off
turkey dinners (think crock pots...lots of them)

Sometimes our themes take a little work but if everyone pitches in and you organize exactly who is responsible for what, it can be done.

Tea Time. Have various teas, some lemonade, different types of little sandwiches, and maybe some biscuits.

Also you could try Italian, German, Japanese, Indoor Picnic, Russian, Polish,........I could just keep going and going.

Finger Foods:
Chips & Dips
Pigs in a Blanket
Can Drinks

Redneck Reunion

1. Fried Chicken
2. Southern Potatoe Salad
3. Sweet Tea
4. Jello Mold
These are just the stereotypical suggestions. Get creative!
Here is a website that should help you out, the recipes are more appeitizing than what I suggested.
