Canasta Party - What to serve?!

Question:

Canasta Party - What to serve?

What are the best foods to serve at card-playing parties? I need finger foods that are easy to eat while holding a handful of cards. I'm getting tired of popcorn & want a few creative ideas. Thanks!

Answers:
Haven't played Canasta in years! How fun! Ok, are you sure you want folks to eat while holding cards? Or can there be a serious food break between rounds? Either way, here are some thoughts:

1. Carrot and celery stix with ranch dressing
2. Munch Alot munchie mixes
3. Turkey and cheese tortilla rollups
4. Nachos
5. Quesadillas
6. Hot Artichoke and Crab dip with chips and crackers
7. M & M's
8. Fresh fruit kabobs

you could make little quesadilla, egg rolls. sandwiches

For a Canasta party, I would definitely serve Mexican-themed food, since the original - Canasta Caliente - comes from Mexico. Mexican finger-foods would includes quesadillas, mini-taquitos, churros, etc.

Popcorn can be boring after a while, but if you have friends who are popcorn fans try spice it up or flavoring it up. Parmasean cheese and garlic, spray popcorn with the spray butter then sprinkle with cheese and garlic powder.

For something different though how about bruschetta with just about anything you can think of on top. diced tomatoes with crushed garlic, a bit of olive oil fresh mozzerella.

Spring rolls.
Two or three kinds of sushi.
Edamame very yummy and easy to eat while playing cards
zuchini, cucumber, or squash slices with homemade pimento cheese or simple chicken salad on each one

Hope those ideas help you think of somthing you might like.

Have fun

Cindi

Any kind of chips with dip. Chicken wings. small pizza squares. Crackers with tuna or chicken salad. Anything on a stick:
kebab |k??b?b| (also kabob) noun a dish of pieces of meat roasted or grilled on a skewer or spit. ? [usu. with adj. ] a dish of any kind of food cooked in pieces in this way : swordfish kebabs.
try veggie kabab's or fruit kebab's

i like to make giant subs and then slice them into small triangles they are tastey and easy to handle just get a french loaf and stuff with whatever you want then slice diagnally both sides to create small triangles you can pin them with a toothpick if u like... then try the cracker party mix

2 boxes of ritz bitz cheese sandwiches
then 1 large jar of peanuts or mixed nuts
and 6 boxes of various snack crackers
i also use a small bag of pretzels

dump all this into a paper bag

mix together 1 small bottle of orville reddenbockers butter flavored popcorn oil with 2 packets of dry ranch dressing mix and drizzle over the crackers inside the paper bag...

fold down paper bag and toss everything til coated....
put the paper bag inside a small kitchen trash bag to prevent leakage.... this mixture will have to sit overnight .. then about every couple of hours just toss the bag to keep things mixed this will make a large amount of mix and will keep in airtight containers for 3-4 weeks... its yummy and i guarantee there wont be any left for that long

ENJOY!!!
