Yes, alcohol is a social lubricant and perfectly acceptable for a shower!. I usually serve some sort of champagne cocktail (like a mimosa) at soirees such as this!. Wine is appropriate, punch is appropriate, but sangria may be a little on the redneck side!. Besides, it is time consuming and can get pricey to buy all of that fresh fruit (unless you already have fruit that is starting to turn laying around your kitchen)!.
I make a good punch with blended strawberries, ice, pineapple juice, champagne, rum and ginger ale!. The strawberries can be bought cheaply by buying them frozen and then microwaving them!. In fact, it is usually better to cook strawberries either in the microwave or on the stove before trying to blend them!. Make sure the champagne is "extra dry" and not "brut" or "spumante" (this goes for all champagne mixers)!. Serve with orange slices floating on top!.
It ends up a very pretty pink color and people usually can't get enough!. Takes about 5 min!. to make 2 gallons!. Be warned, though, no matter how much rum you add it is hard to taste it and people will get drunk fast if you add a lot- I have done this at more casual affairs!. Hope this helps!.Www@FoodAQ@Com
