Have a Dance party and if youc an afford it get a DJ! My sister did that and it totally rocked. You can even have a theme like a costume party, a 'dress up as your favourite celebrity' theme or you can have no theme at all. For drinks supply punch (add gingerale for fizzzz) and pop. If you cant afford a dance party or dont like the idea, you can always go for just a party and rent some movies, have pop and snacks and just hang out with different types of music you like!

How about a casino theme?
When people arrive, give them a certain amount of play money to "gamble" at several tables set up where they can play blackjack, craps, and roulette.
Have a buffet setup like at a casino with assorted sandwiches and other snacks.
Serve assorted mocktails to give the party a grownup feel.
At the end of the night, the attendants with the most "play" money receive door prizes.
If you have one of those things that connects your computer to your tv, you could play music videos on your tv and get to choose the music and have very little, if any, commercial interruptions. Sign up with Yahoo! Launchcast... it's great for making video playlists. Try to make the lighting more moody... if you have a dimmer on your light switch make it kinda dark in your house (but not too dark). Make sure there's a LOT of seating to make people feel comfy and relaxed (you can rent chairs and crap from like, rent-a-center or whatever). as for drinks, you should probably plan on at least 3 drinks per person and you can just have them all out in a bunch of coolers... or you could fill your (clean) bathtub with ice and throw all the drinks in there! haha it's actually kinda fun, plus then all the ice just melts down the drain - no clean up! make sure your house smells good too - depending on whatever theme you wanna do you can make it smell accordingly. the biggest thing is to make sure there's stuff for people to do... and FOOD... party guests love to eat... serve something special and different - don't just throw out a couple bags of chips or something lame like that.
