Obviously the fortunes inside the cookie are fun to read and have not come true, but how did this get started? Why is it still done today?

how do they get the paper inside the cookie w/o it breaking and if they do put it inside there before baking it

I heard that the Chinese fortune cookie was invented by a Japanese guy on the west coast.

The story has some truth to it because the cookie is a Japanese cookie called senbei.

Many Asian foods are not really Asian and originated in the U.S. The California Roll is another example.
