What adult food to supply for a kids birthday party?!

Question:

What adult food to supply for a kids birthday party?

i need to provide lunch type food for the adults coming to my son's 3rd birthday party. It's being held outdoors with no access to electricity or bbq's so it needs to just be cold and substantial enough to get them from morning tea time till after lunch. kids food is catered its just the 20 or so adults that i need to think about. any help gratefully received.

GREAT question!

Subway makes a great sandwich platter, adults looove it.

Fruit (with a side of cool whip) and veggie trays are usually a hit too!

Here's a quick but great recipe for guacamole you can whip up - you'll receive complements for sure! (and requests for the recipe too :D )

INGREDIENTS

* 2 avocados
* 1 small onion, finely chopped (or 1-2 stalks of green onions, also finely chopped)
* 1 clove garlic, minced
* 1 handful of cilantro, chopped
* Splash of olive oil
* 1 capful white vinegar
* 1 tablespoon chunky salsa like Pace
* 1/2 lime, juiced
* 1 tablespoon sour cream
* salt and pepper to taste

DIRECTIONS

1. Peel and mash avocados in a medium serving bowl. Stir in the rest of the ingredients. Adjust and add more of the listed ingredients to attain desired taste and/or texture (sometimes I add more salsa for extra chunkiness). Chill for half an hour to blend flavors.

The base recipe for the guacamole was found at allrecipes.com, but it's been since greatly modified. :)

you can do deli or sub platters...that should last...and maybe some side salads...
although, i've noticed that a lot of parents that attend parties with their kids usually don't even eat when they are there...at least that's what i've experienced during some of my parties...

Gourmet sandwhiches cut into little triangles or maybe some jatz biscuits with cheese or dips or you could have like a morning tea with scones jam and cream(prepare them before hand and take a few thermosos)

Here are some ideas...

Pasta salad, finger sandwiches, fruit & veggie platter

Sandwiches , Mini Pizzas , Sausage rolls , Quiches , Cheese / pinapples on sticks , sausages , cold meat joints , ham / chicken (to put in sanwiches) nice big salad. breadsticks , sauses / dips , picky stuff like crisps etc. thats what id do anyway.

Savoury and/or Sweet muffins

Do croissants with chicken salad, ham salad, or egg salad,{you can either buy it or make it yourself}
chips, bake beans, maybe a macaroni or potato salad.

use a larger size bowl filled with ice then set your salads or sandwiches on top to keep them cool.

i find these go down great the adults and kids think they are a real treat ,
melt a couple bowls of chocolate white/dark/milk and dip in half of a strawberry and place on a sheet of kitchen foil to set , try with grapes aswell , it is truly amazing what kids eat when chocolate is involved !! and they look great on a platter plate ,
as for savouryies i would get a few frozen pastrys ,mini quiches sausage rolls ect , good luck

A spin on the subs is PITA WRAPS!

I would have also suggested the croissants with the chicken salad or egg salad. That's always a quick whip.

Finger fruits too -- strawberries & grapes (& grapes go GREAT with the chicken salad sandwiches.)

Sounds like fun - parties can be lots of work though so try to keep it easy and quick!!

Try finger sandwhiches, potato chips. Potato salad, Macaroni Salad. Fried chicken; kinda think like a picnic atomosphere. Paper plates and cups. Ice in cooler. Buy a huge sheet cake to include kids and adults.

I feel like pretty much everyone appreciates a veggie and/or fruit platter. I think dips like taco dip and the bread dip where you take the center of the bread out and put the dip in the middle are always a favorite. Good Luck!

Dont bother! Most adults won't eat at a kids party anyway. Just make sure they have drinks and a few nibbles.

i suggest lobster always goes down a treat

Cheeses pates and loads of french bread, it looks very posh and all you have to do is unwrap and present.

You're going to have enough to do on that day as it is.

Garnish with a few grapes and cherry tomatoes.

don't forget the butter!

I would not worry about the adults. This party is intented for the little ones, and not for the adults. Most adults don't eat anyway, they just watch their little ones have fun with the birthday girl/boy.
