make it a mexican theme you can make alot of stuff thats not a million dollars like tacos fajitas enchaladas and dips here are some recipes
Juice of 8 limes (small bottle of Real Lime juice)
12 tablespoons of olive oil
2 teaspoons of oregano
2 teaspoons of pepper
2 teaspoons of salt
1 teaspoon of cumin
1 clove of garlic (diced) or one teaspoon of minced garlic
3 teaspoons of coriander or 1/2 cup of fresh cilantro
Add three pounds of boneless, skinless chicken that has been pounded flat to the marinade. Let sit for at least three hours (the longer the better). For best results, cook on an outdoor grill (duh).

Other items you'll need:

3 cloves garlic, chopped
2 tablespoons butter
1 pint heavy cream
1 (10.75 ounce) can chicken broth
1 cube chicken bouillon
1/4 cup grated Parmesan cheese

In a large skillet, saute garlic in butter over medium heat. Stir in the heavy cream, chicken broth, and bouillon. Add Parmesan cheese, salt, and pepper. Add cornstarch (adjust amount to thicken sauce to your liking). Simmer all together for about 20 minutes.
Once sauce is cooked and thickens, add broccoli and artichoke hearts, stir all together and cook for another 2 to 3 minutes. Once sauce is done, put cooked ziti pasta in a large bowl, pour sauce over pasta and toss to coat and mix. Then add the chicken pieces and mix all together. Serve. Delicious!

Spaghetti and salad

The best recipe that is passed down in my family that is just simply AWESOME!

Recipe
Chicken breasts- WITH skins and bones (best flavor)
Butter
Fresh Parsley
Fresh Garlic
Chicken Boulion

Put Chix in glass baking pan (spray pan first) skins up, place about umm... 1 1/2 TBLS. of butter on top of each chix piece, put about a cup of water and maybe 3 chix B.C. in the pan. Put 4-5 garlic cloves (peeled) in the pan also, then put Fresh parsley on top of chix. Cover with aluminum foil bake about an hour. Then make chix flavored rice....

Recipe
Rice as much as needed- Not minute-wont turn out the same
Chix Boulion
Water - as much as needed (directions)
Some of the juice from the baked chicken

Cook rice until almost done, add a few B.C. and then some of the Chix juice. Cook until done.

Serve broc. and sliced tomato with it. Yummy :)

OK, 5 years ago I was in your shoes. I ordered fried chicken and sides. It was cheap and everyone liked it. In my area there is a great place that tastes just like homemade, so it did not seem so "down scale". I highly suggest you price restaurants as it will save you time and energy. How about Boston Market? Or if you have a little gem of a restaurant in your area, use it. Usually restaurants also supply free spoons, forks, knives, napkins, and plates; you can mix the freebies with the nice decorative plates. Also, order things from Oriental Trading Company for cheap decorations...they do have a website. If that is not possible, go to a party supply store. Congratulations on your achievement!

you didn't say how many people you were feeding, But maybe

Chicken leg quarters,
Mashed potato's,w/ gravy
green beans
rolls
lemonade or ice tea to drink
Or you could do
Lasagna
Garlic bread
tossed salad

I would stick with an Italian theme. Spagehtti or lasagna, breadsticks, salad and tiramisu. This will be easy to cook at home. Italian also seems more elgeant than say fried chicken.
