Why don't communities host block parties any more?!

Question:

Why don't communities host block parties any more?

Answers:
Great question! I've never even been to one, but have certainly seen and read things about them. I live in a quiet development of single family homes. the kids play in the streets. It would be a great place to have an even like that. I won't how one could be organized? We aren't a co-op community, so no meetings or anything of that sort. Seems like it would be a wonderful way to meet neighbors and to just socialize and try different food and drink.

i dunno, we used to have them every year when i was a kid. but now, the people just keep to themselves and don't want to get involved...what a shame.

I live in a town with a population of 200,000 and on the small side-streets people still have block parties.

Chicago's communities do. Even the block I live on. I'm never invited though. I wonder why.

haha good question :) i have no clue they just stopped happening

child molesters that are out there....!

In San Francisco we have Street Fairs;North Beach Fair, Polk Street Fair, Folsom Street Fair, Haight Street Fair just to name a few. A few blocks are closed off and vendors sell foor and art. Years ago we use to be able to call the Police and ask to close off the street for a party, but due to inflation, and gang crime the cost of hosting or having a community party is very expensive. The expense is Police, Alcholo License, clean up, and a few other things.

They don't want the liability that comes with it. Especially when people from outside the "block" crash the party and really cause trouble. No one wants to be responsible for those who get intoxicated and then drive. Nor do people want to risk the possible violence that could occur if the wrong people come to enjoy the festivities.

Most communities have turned into Homeowners Associations where you have to practically kiss every member's @ss to ask permission. And THEN,Heaven forbid you hang up some decoration or lamps of some kind that offends someone's religion or ethnic group opening yourself up to a lawsuit.

y do u wanna no...........it's the same question!

The stinkin' trial lawyers! And GE, Whirlpool, Black and Decker, and Dubya, and the commies, nazis, ex-nazis, nazi-sympathizers, Bill O'Reilly!

That nimrod might poison me.
good question though
I ve got Mennonites across the street very into themselves,, A non residents (live in another city) to south of me, a retired cripple below me.. some welfare recipents to the north renters in the other 3 houses and a bipolar cowboy that can't read or write,, that make up my Block.
No one NO body Nothing has any thing in common.
YOU make me laugh.

everybody is scared of one another now and doesn't want to leave a whole neighbohood of houses empty for hours. Things are so different now. So sad

Partly people just don't socialize with their neighbors the way they used to. But also, all it takes is one or two people to object and you can't get a permit. And more often these days people that don't want to attend refuse to put up with it for the sake of others.

I believe people still have block parties. It just depends on the area you are in. Subdivisions which have a significant number of families with children close in age are probably more likely to have parties though. If you want to live somewhere where the neighbors have gatherings, I'd suggest considering the types of families you will be living around wherever you choose to move.

I personally just went home for Easter and we had a block party which was very interesting because of the families that attended, we were the only one that celebrated Easter. So there are definitely places they still exist, you just have to take a closer look at the area you are in or looking into.

because people are crazy....as in insane...heck, kids dont even play together anymore, there are supervised playdates.

Beacuse no one has time and if you do have one and make alot of noise after 10 pm the cops come.
its sucks.

mine does

Seems to me that everyone is out doing their own thing.Really is a shame cause they could be a lot of fun.

some areas still do have block parties but it all depends on where you live

because everybodies got cable or satellite tv

too many immature people out there now, times has changed somewhat

I think a lot of people just don't socialize with their neighbors that much to want to party with them.

Too much violence in the streets nowadays. I know there is here.
