Is it normal to throw a party for a 40th wedding anniversary?!

Question:

Is it normal to throw a party for a 40th wedding anniversary?

my in laws will celebrate their 40th wedding anniversay in November and my sister and brother in-law want to have a big party? I always thought you only did that for the 50th. Am I wrong?

Answers:
Of course you can. and should celebrate with a party. The 40th anniversary of a marriage is a big one, and honestly, if the couple is getting up in age, then it makes sense to have a nice party for them on this milestone, just in case one or both of them aren't there for the 50th. Not to be morbit, but hey, it's something to consider.
Besides, I know I'D want to have a party if I had such a marriage! Wouldn't you?

Any excuse for a party is a good one.

and if they never make it to the 50th... Why not have the 40th... it is a milestone... I don't think I'll make it that far or even to my 10th!!

This is a wonderful idea. We had one for my inlaws. The theme was Ruby. Not everyone makes it to 50 years. Go for it!

I don't know what Emily Post says, but since the average marriage seems to last around 10 years (9.4 in one source, 12 in another), I'd say go ahead, have a party at 40.

Party Rules:
1. Throw as many as possible.
2. Any reason is a good enough reason to have a party

Moreover, in this age of divorce, if you have been married for 40 years, you deserve a party!!!!

Hope this answers your question. Have a ball at the party!!!

people have parties for any anniversary, but usually thee 50th is a major one. if you have one nobody will think it is weird or anything.

I had a 35th and 40th for my folks...they decided to go to Las Vegas for their 50th

It is normal. That is quite a milestone and a great accomplishment in this day and age when the divorce rate is so high.

A nice family celebration would be great. 40 years now a days is a wonderful mile stone. Most have a big bash for 50. A nice trip for immediate family to the beach or Disney that you could all go to and enjoy would be memorable if you can't all agree on a party.

go ahead ! you dont know how long they'll be around so you should let them celebrate and enjoy it w/ them now.

Yes it is. A closed number will always come up with a huge event. There is a perfect acceptable list of numbered anniversaries that are described with specific "materials & rocks" the 40th Anniversary calls for tanzanites.

You will have to give diamonds by the time they reach their 50th Anniversary!!! Either way enjoy the party!!!

yeah . why not

any decade of marriage is a cause for celebration. Congrats to your in-laws. My Grandparents just celebrated 62 years married.

There is always going to be a reason to party. If you wanna celebrate your 12.5 year anniversary of te day you found a nickel in the park, then by all means, go ahead!!! There are anniversaries for all occassions. Me & my sisters just celebrated my parents' 30th wedding anniversary. We gave them their wedding rings since they pawned them to buy food for us when we were younger. It was a blast and they didnt expect it since they thought it was my sister's b-day party (she was born a year to the day of their wedding day).

The 40th anniversary is the 'ruby anniversary year.' you can have Ruby-related theme and have ppl dress up in red hues to complement the decorations. I added a link to 40th wedding anniversary gifts. Good Luck and 40th is a great year to have a party!!

Well, Usually you either do 50 or 25.... not 40

USE ANY EXCUSE YOU CAN FIND TO HAVE A PARTY. YOU NEVER KNOW WHAT'S AROUND THE CORNER AND WHO OR WHO MAY NOT BE HERE TOMORROW. SO CHERISH YOUR FRIENDS AND FAMILY AND SPEND AS MUCH TIME AS YOU CAN CELEBRATING.

Being married for 40 years these days isn't normal! LOL. Having a celebration is fun, whether it be normal or not. Usually, the mild stones are 25, 50 and 75.. but let them go ahead and have a party. 40 yeas is something to be very proud of.

I agree with cheffy. Party on.
