Question:

What kind of food should I serve at a baby shower?

Answers:
baby showers are supose to be easy. So do a veggie tray with a dill or ranch dip. Also you can try a fruit bowl. Some easy sandwiches like pareminto cheese or chicken salad. As well as maybe some finger foods. A cake with some icing and a punch for refreshments. You can do sprite and hawiann punch with some ice cubes filled with some daisey flowers. Also you can take Sprite and pineapple juice and oj and ginger ale then make ice cubes with Pineapples and orange pieces maybe some cherry jucie for color. Hope this helps you.

olives, carrots, tamatoes, litrle choclates and so on

I like to have trays of little food. ie.... little sandwiches, veggie tray, fruit tray,so on

Things that women like to snack on. Also finger foods and easy to prepare foods. I know this doesn't help much but it is a start.

baby carrots, little wieners in a sauce, crackers & cheese, puffs, cute when useing things with " baby" or small items. baby pickles ect. something sweet and something salty.

cracker
sausage
cheese
chips
dip
fruit
soda/punch
meatballs
taco dip
ham/turkey sandwiches
cake/cupcakes

Most women LOVE finger food. Little appetizers, hors d'oeuvres, canapes, etc. That way they can have a little bit of everything. Try these websites for some great recipes: www.footnetwork.com and www.epicurious.com

Chinese food, and Japanese food!

Try the High Tea theme.

1)Try a platter of gourmet sandwich cut into fingers (or thirds length wise).

2)Strawberries dipped in milk and white melted chocolate then allowed to set.

3)Pots of tea getting out your best tea cups.

4)Little cup cakes.

5)Camembert cheese and seedless grapes on toothpicks.

6)Guacamole dip and cream cheese and sun dried tomato dip with cut vegetables.

Treat trays are great! Rolled up lunch meat and crackers, fruit balled and sliced. Chocolate covered pretzels, non alcoholic champagne (sparkling cider) in pretty glasses. Maybe a pudding salad or something. Or another fun thing we did at my sisters is we made a huge tray of cookies but made them little, about the size of a bite size cookie, and did everything small . . . it's a baby thing.

Light foods finger foods, maybe a salad with appetizers nothing too fancy maybe cheesesticks, toasted ravioli, garlic bread sticks or toast, and maybe you can do a fruit platter and a vegie platter those are always hit but don't break the bank on food for a babyshower.

fruit kabobs.............use cherries, grapes, pineapple chunks,
and pound cake squares
*stand the sticks up in something and put the cake on last,
(on top) so it does not get soggy

Jelly babies.

One of the most important decisions you will have to make in planning the shower is what you are going to serve to eat. Finger foods? A sit-down meal? To make your decision-making process simpler, consider who will be coming to the shower. Showers with girlfriends and co-workers often call for finger foods. On the other hand, baby showers for family members or co-ed showers might require a little more work.

A Meal

The food you serve will depend on whether you want to have a sit-down meal or a variety of appetizers. Sit-down meals are nice, but they tend to be more complicated and often much more expensive. Full meals often are served at baby showers with family attending or co-ed baby showers. Fathers-to-be are being invited more and more to attend baby showers. Couple friends of the proud parents-to-be often attend; and because men are not as likely to enjoy playing cutesy shower games, the baby shower will revolve more around the food. What guy doesn't appreciate a hearty meal, right? It also gives everyone a chance to sit together to catch up and share stories.

Finger Foods

If you opt for the snacks and appetizers, there are many options as to what to serve. For simpler menus, serve veggies, such as carrot and celery sticks, broccoli florets and dip. Also offer different types of snacks like chips, pretzels, cookies, crackers―all of which are easy to set up and there's something for everyone. If you want something with a little more substance, make some finger foods. Some popular dishes are mini-quiches, pasta salads, stuffed mushrooms and mini-pizzas. Try to make something that the mother-to-be likes to eat. The important thing is to have a variety of foods so nobody goes hungry. And don't forget the dessert. In fact, you can even have a dessert-themed party. Lay out several dessert dishes and let your guests indulge.

Serve it Up

The easiest way to serve food at a baby shower is to set up a buffet-style spread or place plates of appetizers around the room. Many shower throwers purposely scatter plates of food around the room to get people up and moving about. This often encourages everyone to circulate and mingle with people they are meeting for the first time.

It really depends on how much you like to cook!! If you are a Martha Stewart type, then go for cream cheese bars arranged on a multi-tiered cookie platter, a chocolate fondue with fruit, and a shrimp pasta salad - mmmm! If not, then I'd go with finger foods and keep it simple. A cheese & cracker trey, a vege & dip trey, perhaps some cold cuts rolled up and skewered with toothpicks, a fruit trey, a pitcher of sweet tea (I live in Atlanta), and maybe a bowl of pasta salad from the deli!

I think a cake is nice too, and you can go for a $15 sheet cake from Wal-mart all the way up to a specialty cake from a local bakery. Personally, I go to a bakery for the cake. It always tastes amazing, and looks amazing, and the price difference is only about $10 or $15. It's worth it to me because it makes the baby shower that much more memorable for the expectant mother.

Or, if you want a cake for a centerpiece that's inedible, have you thought about a diaper cake? Diaper cakes are my favorite idea for a baby shower centerpiece - they look just like a real cake, but they are made from disposable diapers that mom-to-be can take home and use after the baby shower is over. Enjoy the party!!
