What can be used as party themes on a regatta evenning party?
We are planning regatta parties in south of France, the event is organized by a big oil company. I'm looking for ideas of themes/costumes/entertainment activities to use for the evening parties. Can you suggest to me something??

What about a sort of Pirates of the Carribean theme..have the ladies dress in period clothing, the gentlemen in navel officer uniforms and those who wish to be rebellious can dress as pirates. You can have mock sword fighting contests (or real swords depending on the qualifications of your guests), a trivia game about the adventures of the time, a dance contest, etc.

I think there are a lot of things you could do...
Ok themes:
Cruising....as in sailing the QE2 for instance which means people have to drees smartly, or call it The Captains Table
Food would be smart...maybe salmon or shellfish if its a sit down, with a sorbet course...
Or if its finger food use smoked salmon, oysters,prawns
Drinks you could have a wine fountain...would look wonderful! sparkling wine, or cocktails...
Entertainments can be things you associate with cruising...so quoits, deck games, swimming games, you could have nice cabaret items too such as a great singer or comedian. Don't know your budget of couses but assuming its a big event, then you could easily get the atmosphere of a big cruise.
A variation on this would be something that spells out the Bnelle Epoch....eg cruising at the end of the 18th cent when things were slow and grand. Period costumes and all! Can can dancers, ice sculptures...I went to one on this theme once and it worked well!
Pirates and Maidens....
Pirate and wench costumes....
Food could be BBQ things, or finger foods such a cooked ribs or chicken drunsticks...
Drinks could be a wine punch....
Beer, Grog! Well call it that make a cocktail/punch!
Rum punches
Entertainment...musician playing squeez box, bar type piano, singers of shanties...
Face painting
Have a bottle stall where you buy a ticket and if it matches a number on a bottle on the stall you win that....
You could have an auction of "plunder" anything you can lay your hands on could be for sale!
for competitions prizes could be gold chocolate coins! Treasures, cheap chains, or jewellery
Or Pirates and Mermaids
Mush the same as above, but I would have more "fishy food" or make things in fishy shapes...
You could have competitions sich as making a decorated mirror with card and things such as sequins...
Or making card pirate cutlasses!
Have face painting as above...hoopla but make the prizes a fish theme or swimming theme...have rubber rings, goggles, floats or thise things you can dive for!
Or fish mobiles, ornaments...
How about Death on the Nile theme?
Echoes of Poirot, whoo dunnit! Egyptian decorations, but dressing as suggested in the idea above...period say 1920...
Food could be nearly anything you wish on this one...go with the posh cruise food, or go egyptian! Dishes with cous cous, salads, buffets,

All would work! Or nice finger foods...
Entertainments...play 20 band music, have flapper dancers, belly dancers, snake charmer, juggler, fireeating....
You could do a mini who dunnit if you are imaginative, or have a quiz on well known detective writers, or films....
Based on where you are what about a Film Award theme
People dress either as well known people or as if they are stars....Or paparazzi.., film producers, directors models etc...
Have decorations of awards...oscor or the Palm d'or.
Music a lot of film themes
Food again posh I guess....again anything would go with this theme...
Games could be anything from dance competitions to film music,
Or posing for photos...

Based on the book....you dress as kids for playing in boats on the river!
Food would be things that kids love...Jelly and ice cream, buns, gingerbread....
Drinks, ginger beer, lemonade...perhaps you could have adult versions with alchol

If your party is a huge event...then how about "The Great ~Exhibition"
This would allow you to have all kinds of side shows...fair ground stalls and attractions. Coconut shy, merrygo rounds if you are thinking big, toss a ring over the prize....all those kinds of games..
Food could be fairground food, hot dogs and burgers...
Or you could have "tents" as "coffee houses" "hot chocolate stalls" pancakes of crepes....
I keep thinking of more. Im sure you could figure details to go with any of these....

Seaside fun, have cut out funny figures for photos...
entertainment could be jote box, singalong, or a concert!
You could have game machines, a mini train giving rides....
