Do you think roasted chestnuts would be a good appetiser for fall meals?!

Question:

Do you think roasted chestnuts would be a good appetiser for fall meals?

I know I am working ahead of schedule but there is the scent of wood smoke in the air tonight and I keep thinking of roasted chestnuts.

Do you think it would be acceptable to offer a nice dish of them ... out of the shell but still hot .... before dinner with some sort of drink?

Ta!

Answers:
I think that's a great idea, though personally, I would leave the shells on as they won't go cold so quick. A nice dry sherry would make a good drink to accompany them. Careful though, chestnuts are quite filling and very moreish, and you don't want to spoil your guests' appetites for the the rest of the feast you're laying on. Do you, by any chance, need another man to make the numbers up? LOL

That sounds lovely!

Pair it with mulled cider or mulled wine.

Yum

yes

YES - You are perfectly correct. Some ROASTED CHESTNUT with some soft drink or even lime juice is a very good appetiser before dinner. It need not be very hot and it is enough it is freshly roasted and it will work good. -

I usually serve them, still in their skins, way after the end of the meal with a glass of good red wine (better still vin brulè). It's great to just sit around the table with friends and family chatting away while everyone opens and munches their roasted chestnuts..............

sure

No I think that you should offer them after a meal as a sort of dessert. Chestnuts are very filling and if you give your guests chestnuts as an appetiser most of them will be full up after eating them and not have room for the rest of the meal.
Roasted are lovely and the best way to eat them but you can boil them in their shells too until they are soft inside and serve them. They are nice in that way too.

Yes = I do... so can I get an invite too?

Have Fun
