What do you like for a pre-dinner snack?!

Question:

What do you like for a pre-dinner snack?

Either for yourself.... to keep the hunger away while dinner cooks ... or to offer to your guests?

Somehow, I am a little wary of serving anything Italian lest it becomes tiresome and then nobody likes it any longer ...... but there must be other things?

Ta!

Answers:
cheese and fruit are always good. if both are particularly good, you won't need to eat that much to get a good dose of flavor and get the urge to eat going.

i'll leave the actual choices to you, but say i dunno...apples, grapes with a good strong cheese served with a nice white wine sounds about right.

Hummus and Vegetables like red and yellow peppers, carrots and cucumbers with pita chips or other crackers. I also like to add some hot sauce or chili sauce for some added kick in the hummus.

For guests, pate (either real good goose liver pate or vegetarian pate of roasted portobellos) with water wafers.
If an asian meal is being served, tiny spring rolls and/or crab rangoons.
