I'm having a Hawaiian themed luai and I need sugestions? HELP!!!?!

Question:

I'm having a Hawaiian themed luai and I need sugestions? HELP!!!?

I am in charge of the company picnic this year and I have to plan a Hawwiian themed picnic for 80-90 people. I need suggestions for food/caterers, games/activities, decorations, and door prizes around $25. I have a place picked out but everything else is up for suggestion. I want cute easy ideas and places to shop. We live in Florida if that helps. Thanks for all seriouse suggestions.

For everything but the food, go to a local party/card shop. They will have a whole section dedicated to specific themes such as luas. You will find decorations, tableware, game ideas & more. As for the food, the only thing to do is roast a whole pig! Do it yourself in a shallow dug pit, or find a caterer who can handle this job. Serve with traditional bbq sides such as slaw, potato salad, baked beans, etc - but also add a few more authentic dishes such as poi & pineapple fruit salad......For door prizes, you could do a "beach bag" filled with suntan oil, beach towel, sunglasses, magazine subscription, etc. Or how about a free hula lesson from the local dance studio......Sounds like it's going to be a blast!!

hire some local hula dancers.
most communities have a hula dance group that will perform.
fire dancers - it's an hawaiian art.
fire twirlers
a hawaiian band.
you should have the luau roasted pig buried in the ground.
people will do that for you for a price, too.
use flower leis when people come to the party.

Grass skirts on the tables -- not on the people!
Leis, obviously, but try for silk ones rather than the ugly plastic ones. Or look for paper ones.
Pineapple is traditionally thought of as Hawaiian food, and you can always ask the caterers what else they suggest. A pit roast of pig or seafood might be a good luau idea.

Games... volleyball, but dress up the poles to look like palm trees and make the net green instead of boring white. A little spray paint will help you there.

Are you indoors or outdoors? Tiki torches are nice outdoor touches, even if the party is during the daytime and they're not lit.

The Oriental Trading Company is a great place to shop for Hawaiian themed items and you can get some game ideas there too. You should get someone to do shaved ice as this a very popular Hawaiian specialty. Your food should be Polynesian or light Asian - chicken teriaki, roast pig, some sort of sea food and lots of tropical fruits.

I did a luau and served macaroni salad and chicken k-bobs with pineapple. I used sand pails for the salads with shovels for spoons. It was great because they could sink into an iced pan.

One game that was a hit the dj asked the crowd for the guy in the office who was a great boss, the fix it man (the everyone calls to fix computers), the guy in the office who rides a harley, a Marlbro man, and someone who made sure everyone was doing the right thing. The guys were called out of the audience and given a little prop they were made to sing the Village People song YMCA. It was a riot. I think they even got a little prize afterward.

You can get TONS of decorations at your local dollar store. Lilies are fairly cheap and look great for decorations. For food you can hire someone to do a pig roast and go to your local Gordan food service or bulk food store and get fruit salad chips and other side items. There is a brand of chocolate I think it's Grimaldi not sure on that...but they make boxes of gourmet chocolate shaped like sea shells. You find them at your local grocery store. I know in my grocery store they are in the cards and gift bag area. That would make a cute door prize...Hope at least some of this helps :)
