Surprise 21st birthday party for a guy; No alcohol?!

Question:

Surprise 21st birthday party for a guy; No alcohol?

My boyfriend is turning 21 in three weeks. I want to throw a surprise party for him.

We are quite conservative (no alcohol, no clubs). The party will be in a friend's apartment (no BBQ etc), perhaps Tuesday night after work.

I was thinking about getting Chinese food, something for dessert, fruit and a cake. My budget is $150, the party will be for about 20 people. I am getting plates and cups with "21" on them.

Any good ideas about how much and what food should i get? i know different people like different things, i'd rahter have a little bit of everything. can you help me decide how much of what?

also, any ideas about decorating and activities would be Greatly appreciated!

Go to one of the warehouse clubs, BJ's, Sams, or Costco. You can get stuff you can heat up yourself and serve. All kinds of things. Go in and have a look.

Throw a late night poker party. Its fun easy and inexpensive. You can serve appetizers and desserts as it will be in the evening after dinner time. Buy cards, table topper and chips and you are set. There are lots of cheap decorations for this theme at any party supply store also. Make a big bowl of punch and maybe some non alcoholic drinks for everyone.

call ahead for all your ideas, food and things and talk to the sales peeps, they know how much food to get ,cuz thats their job.if chinese(yummy)alot of it comes with different kinds of rice, and who dont love rice??for free.
