What games to play at a house warming party? Please!?
At the end of May my friend was going to host a house warming party for me. She had no ideas for any games, I had only one Idea. We could get many keys and as people come we could pass them out on strings so they could wear them around there neck. If a person says house then they get to take the other persons key almost to the end of the party every one will have a chance to place the key in my door. If it fits then they get the prize of a 25 dollar gift card to walmart, but first they got to give up the key to get the gift. Any other game ideas? The party will mainly be out side since every one that I know have at least 2 or more children. -o- and do you know where I can find a bunch of keys for a cheap price? Thanks, if you can help

A typical house warming party does not include games, however - I do like the key idea. Sounds fun.
BUT, the whole idea to a house warming party is for guests to see your new pad and help you celebrate it. THEY tend to bring the gifts...ie... plants, wine, dishes, picture frames.... NOT you giving them a gift. I have been to several house warming parties and haven't played a game yet. Lots of the parties though have offered a little memento... like at a wedding. A small bag of Hershey kisses with a note that says your new address and phone number and to thank them for coming to the party. But no games.
It is YOUR party though. I like the key game. Maybe the prize should be a gift card to a Home Depot or Lowes or something for houses. Or you don't have to get that expensive - just do a small gift bag of sorts.
monopoly, scrabble, UNO, Playing cards,
you can get keys at any hardware store for pretty cheap. or check with local antique stores.
maybe you can focus on games for the kids to play so the parents can have time to relax and just enjoy the party? twister, catch, sports, tag, red rover, red light green light, etc.
if you really want to do a game for the adults, the key one sounds ok. don't overschedule the party for the adults though - supply food, drinks, good music and places to sit and they'll be happy.
you really dont need to get a gift card for the winner - something small like a bag of candy, a key ring, etc would be totally fine.
why is your friend hosting a house warming party for you? A house warming party is supposed to be at your house... that's the whole point? to get people in to see the place, welcome them and you to your new home, etc.
I have never been to a house warming party where games were played. I do think the key game sounds fun - it adds just enough flare without being over the top.
I also like the idea of providing some form of entertainment for the kids so the adults can relax.
House warming parties are intended for the guests to help "warm up" the home for the new home owner. Traditionally, the guests bring small gifts for the host(ess). I would feel a little awkward if the host handed me a gift at their own house warming party.
Be careful not to make this party too complicated. It should be an opportunity for you to gather with your close friends and family, show them your new home, relax and have a good time. You do not have to provide games to accomplish that.
My suggestion (I speak from experience with my own housewarming party):-
alcohol + pictionary/taboo/snatch scrabble = heaps-of-fun
:p

I think that one game is enough. At a house warming party all you need to do is just sit back and enjoy your friends company in your new home.
Have a superb night!
