I'm entertaining for a 60th birthday party any food suggests.?!

Question:

I'm entertaining for a 60th birthday party any food suggests.?

My mother is turning 60 next week, and my sisters and I are having a surprize birthday party. There is going to be approximately 40 people attending. We need suggests on what foods to serve. We are looking to prepare more of the finger foods, without a lot of baking. The party is going to be in the afternoon for a couple hours. Are there any websites with recipes for large crowds? Please help. Thanks!

A good recipe is called chicken tacos.
Ingredients:
4 Boneless breasts
10 Flour tortillas
1 can enchilada sauce
cilantro
Cheese
Boil your chicken in water and dried cilantro until done
Take chicken out and cut into small pieces.
Dunk Tortillas in chicken broth and cilantro until moistened
lay down in a casserole dish, add one layer of chicken
drizzle some enchilada sauce over chicken and then sprinkle cheese. repeat until everything is gone.
Drizzle sauce over rolled tortillas and add even more cheese.
Cook at about 350 for 30 minutes
You can use cheddar, Mexican blend etc.

salad sandwich

I would recommend doing a bunch of comfort foods that will remind her of when she was a girl. If you can't remember her talking about favorite foods, bring it up in a conversation about the "good old days". Cheese and crackers is always a good option, with some fun variety of different types of cheeses and sauces to go with. Check out Martha Stewart's appetizer book for more ideas.

At 60, your mom and her friends are boomers, and are probably pretty adventurous and will enjoy things that are fun, a little different, maybe retro, and definately not boring. Don't think of it as having a party for a bunch of "grandmas"!

Why not do finger sandwichs like tuna salad, egg salad, chicken salad and then make up a cold cut tray and have some rolls on the side so they can make them there selves and then do macaroni salad, potato salad, coleslaw, deviled eggs, and a cheese and cracker tray and a pickle and olive tray and don't for get your condiements for the cold cuts and something nice is to make a big cesear salad and just dress it before the party and also make fruit sticks just buy what ever fruit you like and stick them on the little wooden sticks and if you want you can buy a pre made dip for the fruit and just put it in a pretty bowl with the fruit and you can make all that stuff in advance so you can have fun at the party. If you wanted something warm I would suggest making sweddish meatballs in the crock pot and baked ziti because you can make it ahead of time and heat when you need it. Hope this helps and Have a great time at the party and good luck! Tell your mom I said happy Birthday!

you can do bar-b-q mini meat balls,I buy the frozen meatballs heat and put in crock pot with your favorite BBQ sauce

Hot mini smokey links We use 4 packs of the mini Smokey's heat in microwave then put in crock pot. Mix 3 cups catsup 1 cup hot sauce and 1/2 cup grape jelly { I know it doesn't sound very good but they are quite yummy}

Take mini croissants and fill them with Ham salad, Chicken salad and Tuna salad this gives everyone a variety and there's no messing with having to make their own sandwiches

Fruit trays always go over big, Just chop or slice a bunch of different fruits and arrange on a big tray. Serve with a fruit dip you can buy it made or make your own Mix 4-8oz bars softened cream cheese with 2 big jars marshmallow cream. This will make quite a lot.

Pumpkin Dip Mix 2- 8oz bars softened cream cheese, 4 cups powdered sugar and a large can of pumpkin in food processor, serve with ginger snaps or graham cracker sticks

gyoza, mini pizza ( buy large one and cuts in small pieces), sadwich, mini salad ( use iceberg leaves as "plate"),

Here are a list of my favorite recipes for parties
Pasta Salad
Potato Salad
Salami Bread
Taco Dip and Chips

For the main food, cooking a ham is great, or getting sliuced Roast Beef for a crowd of 40 is a great idea. I always order for fewer people than the grocery store tells me because they usually over estimate. Make your own BBQ pork, by cooking a few pork roasts, slicing them or pulling them apart and adding BBQ.
