i'm african american but my hair won't look like the other african american(their hair look silky and shiny and long) my hair is just short and poofy and i wear a head band every day it look like an afro.

Answers:
Buy some pressing oil from a beauty supply store (like Sally's) and hot comb or flat iron your hair. It lasts for awhile and its not as damaging to your hair texture as a relaxer would be. *Good Luck*
:)

I suggest you repost in the Health/Beauty category under the sub-category "Hair" as posting this in Food and Drink probably isn't going to get you much help. Good Luck! I'm sure you'll have it the way you want in no time.

Have you ever had a relaxer and style or had a "press and curl"?
I'm guessing you haven't because that's two ways to make the natural curl of African hair "smoother". If you have trouble styling your own hair at home and there's nobody else in your house that's good with hair then go have it done. Those other girls weren't born with "smooth" hair either.
When you're young and society says that you shouldn't wear your hair natural and all the "beautiful people" have smooth relaxed hair, it's hard to be different. Maybe when your older and wiser you'll know that natural hair is beautiful in itself.
