Black and White Party Ideas anyone?!

Question:

Black and White Party Ideas anyone?

My husband and I are planning our 1st yr. Ann. party. We were thinking about a semi -formal black and white party. So if anyone has any ideas feel free to share.

How funny that you should ask this! Yesterday at a used bookstore I picked up a book called "The Art of the Cocktail Party" for 2 bucks, and one "theme" party she describes is the Black And White Party. Some of the ideas are just silly, but here are a few I thought were good:

--Use tablecloths and cocktail napkins in a black and white design, or else use half black and half white cocktail napkins.
--Be sure to politely encourage guests to dress in black and/or white on the invitations.

Cocktail nibble recipes:

Black and White Caviar Canapes

--8 slices thin-sliced white bread
--1 stick softened unsalted butter
--2 ounces caviar (Sevruga, Osetra or Beluga)
--3 hard-boiled eggs (for true black and white canapes use the whites only, but add the yolks back in if you're less picky--they'll taste better)

Force egg whites through a sieve, using the back of a spoon. If you use the yolks too, do the same, but separately. Toast the bread lightly, cut off the crusts, and butter the slices. With a sharp knife, cut bread into 2-inch squares. Using a ruler (if you want to get a sharp diagonal line), place egg whites and/or yolks on one half of the toasts, caviar on the other.

Boursin and Black Olive Canapes

--I loaf thinly-sliced pumpernickel bread
--1 cup Greek or other marinated black olives, pitted
--8 ounces Boursin cheese ( a mild creamy French herbed cheese sold in the deli at most supermarkets), at room temperature
--6 to 8 chives, finely chopped
--1/2 teaspoon Worcestershire sauce
--6 radishes

Chop the olives coarsely in a food processor (or by hand), then add in the cheese, Worcestershire and chives.

Make vertical cuts around each radish, then slice very thin, making little flower shapes.

Spread the cheese and olive mixture on slices of pumpernickel, and cut out different fancy shapes with cookie cutters--you should get 2 or 3 from each slice. Garnish each one with 1 or 2 slices of radish.

For cocktails: martinis, garnished with a cocktail onion and a black olive (the kind that comes in a can, not the marinated kind). For nonalcoholic drinks, blackberry or blackberry soda, and mineral water.

Cole Porter on the stereo. What could be more elegant?

(P.S: my wedding was black-and-white themed--except that my wedding dress was red. It was really lovely and fun! I hope your party will be too.)

You could do all black tableclothes with white flowers in clear cases. You could set the table with white china and make it sparse, yet elegant. You could also do a dark and a white chocolate fondue fountain.

You can go to shopping.yahoo.com and type in black & white parties and it will give you a list of stores with all kinds of party ideas, decorations, invitations, etc. Good Luck!

Make sure the DJ has enough music so that both black AND white people will enjoy themselves. Make sure you have plenty of black olives and white bread. Black and white cookies for dessert are always a nice touch. For entertainment, rolling dem bones will compliment your theme nicely. GET A LIFE!!!!!

so cute. hav fun. i think you and your husband should be in different colors instead of black and white

minstrals?!

I threw a black and white party a couple of years ago......for the tables to black table cloths, use white china on the table you can do different things for centerpieces, maybe you can do white flowers in black vases or even black and white floating candles or a mirror with different sizes of mixed black and white candles.
Ask your guests to dress for the occasion, everyone has clothes in black and white so it should not be a burden.
Its hard to have dinner thats b&w but you can play with the desserts, you can do dark and white chocolate dipped strawberries or those b&w cookies, black forest cake, you can ask the bakery to use white frosting.
Also if alcohol is going to be served see if the bartender can help you come up with a theme drink.....something clear (for white) something with coke (for black) you can get those cocktail accessories

hope that helps

You should find yourself a nice outfit as whitehouse black market.
