What to drink to or what to do to prepare my vocals for singing?!

Question:

What to drink to or what to do to prepare my vocals for singing?

lets say im about to record a song, besides vocal warm-up and singing the scale and all that stuff,is there something i can do to clear my throat and put my vocals in the best hape before i actually sing?plz help!!!!!!!

Answers:
Stay away from drinks like milk or sugary, syrupy drinks that will coat your throat. Water and sugar free tea are best or tea with honey and lemon but even then, I wash it down with water, and keep plenty of water handy. They make some vocal sprays but I never found that they did much. Nothing works for me like ice water.

If you are experiencing any seasonal allergies or mucous problems, take plain robitussin (guaifenesin) syrup the night before and the day of the recording, it's an expectorant and will thin the mucous.

Good luck!

you should say..

"let me clear my throat, aha aha oh yeah"

and then drop a kick-*** beat

some whiskey, or maybe vodka.

room temperature water, squeeze some fresh lemon in too if you'd like- that always helps me clear out my throat before i'm about to sing or perform

Water or tea is good. Avoid milk and dairy before a performance as it coats the throat.

Pure honey

I have always heard that a nice warm cup of tea with lemon and honey is good for the old pipes!

i love singing and when i get ready to sing, i would drink as much water as i can, and then go to do vocal warm-ups which always helps.

*Avoid spicy food as much as possible
*Limit your intake of drinks that include alcohol or caffeine.
*lots of water
*No smoking

Practice good breathing techniques when singing or talking. It is important to support your voice with deep breaths from the diaphragm, the wall that separates your chest and abdomen. Singers and speakers are often taught exercises that improve this breath control. Talking from the throat, without supporting breath, puts a great strain on the voice.
*Do not cradle the phone when talking. Cradling the phone between the head and shoulder for extended periods of time can cause muscle tension in the neck.

Exercise regularly. Exercise increases stamina and muscle tone. This helps provide good posture and breathing, which are necessary for proper speaking.

Get enough rest. Physical fatigue has a negative effect on voice.

Avoid cold drinks and chocolates to

try having some hot water or tea. dont do any thing un healthy.

nothing too hot or too cold...avoid that

warm water, I guess...honey is good too

and suck a sugar christal (white transparent cubes made of sugar)

Mariah Carey drinks a spoonful of honey before she sings.
Try these vocal exercises:The key to a good rehearsal is to ensure that you achieve the following before starting:
Abdominal breathing
Good posture
Breath during natural pauses
Keep your chin level
Keep your knees loose
Keep your head up
Keep your shoulders sloping and relaxed
Keep your toes pointed forward with your weight on heels and soles
Keep the front of your neck loose - don't stretch it
Keep abdominal muscles relaxed
Keep your back muscles relaxed
Avoid holding your shoulders lifted and puffed out
Relax and SMILE.
If your having a bad day or feel tense and stressed, this can affect your practices and performance. To help achieve consistancy do a few Relaxation Exercises before your rehearsal. If it all starts going horribly wrong, take a break, relax or do something else and try again later.

Stand with your shoulders relaxed, arms by your side.

Breath in slowly.

Sing one note, holding the note for as long as you can without becoming short of breath.

Do NOT suck in your stomach!

Repeat the exercise with different notes using doh, ray, me, far, so, la, te, doh.

Use different mouth shapes and vowels like "ooh", "ee", "a" and "aah"

Try singing up and down a scale (called an arpeggio).

Sing short notes (known as Staccato) as well as long ones.

I've been singing for about 5 years and cold water has never done me wrong. Except if you drink too much and then you have to go to the bathroom. Maybe try hot water too it clears you sinuses maybe your throat too.
