Party Crisis?!

Question:

Party Crisis?

My family will be having a birthday/graduation for a 46 year old man. he is just got his bs degree, is religous, has never had a party, talkative-military-man. what can we do to make it a memorable celebration? we already plan to have a bbq type thing but we need to know how to make it more than just a bbq celebration.
so in a nut shell any ideas about the setup, themes, anything that would help us make it a success.

Answers:
If he has a military background do it in a red, white and blue color/america theme.

It will go well with the BBQ food theme.

I'd keep it low key, the bbq idea sounds great, otherwise he will be so overwhelmed he won't be able to enjoy it. Maybe some patriotic colors in the way of some streamers or balloons, but nothing over the top.

Do a Pig Out! Pig roast, beer, music...

Outdoor games are good, alcohol, and some kareoke

my father was in the marines, and when we did any type of celebration it was always kinda tough... BBQ is an excelent idea, just have some beers... Dont worry about any type of decorations... Simple Food, and Beer... leave the rest to the guests... It will be rememorible, i promise

find old pics of him in the military. make it a military theme. let him talk about himself and his memories all night long. put a large flag up. and have everyone dress in military type clothing. and thank him for serving .
