Answers:
I have done a number of themed parties for my kids.. in the case of the Indian Princess Party..
I would go online and search under Moroccan to get the ornate lanterns, I would also get several yards of sari fabric (Ebay is a good resource) to drape around.. I would use the same sort of fabric for the table of the Princess. Maybe even for her chair.
Think of some icons for India..
you may be able to do a large mural for a wall in the room of the Taj Mahal
Then using paper mache and hangers you could make an elephants head and trunk - then paint it grey

Use Buddhas as an accent, either on the buffet table or on the individual tables

You can get a large map of India and use it as a table cover or as another feature on a wall and or the flag of India

If you were able to locate someone to do henna tattoos for the guests that would be great entertainment, or perhaps a traditional Indian dance.

I always do gift boxes.. they can be elaborate or not depending on your budget and crowd.
I would order rupees and put them in the box ( some people have never seen them) , maybe you include a small elephant, a card with some trivia (Its good to have the guests learn something when they come to a theme party)

If you wanted to get a little kitchy you could go with a more Disney feel using Aladdins lamp..

Tigers would be a great prop.. you could make them or buy the bigger stuffed animals at a toy store

There is nothing you can't do with butcher paper, poster board, paper mache and a little imagination.

Have fun!

I would decorate the tables with elephant figurines and different sizes of pillar candles.

Use bright colors, like orange and gold, for your tablecloths and other decorations.

Obviously you're going to want to serve Indian food. It might be a good idea to place labels in front of each serving dish, in case your guests aren't familiar with Indian cuisine.

It would also be fun to play some Indian dance songs (maybe every 5th song or so) and, if you know someone who can teach a few Indian dance moves, have a short lesson for those who are interested in learning them.

I also recommend watching "Monsoon Wedding." I think it'll really help you brainstorm some good ideas for your Indian-themed party.

Hope you have fun!

jelebi is yummy, so are soan cakes. Pataks products are good for easy home made indian food, naan is also essential.
