Trinity Hill White Label, Hawkes Bay, New Zealand, Pinot Gris ￡24
Not the cheapest - but you wouldn't want that - but a good choice that won't overpower the food but will complement it

My suggestion would be to ask the waiter or sommelier if the restaurant has an inexpensive house wine!. It really depends on what you are eating!. My opinion is strong hearty favors can bear a dry red wine!.
Light favors need a light rose or white wine!.
Don't drink wine with vinegar based foods, they kind of clash to me!.
