The person that i replaced did a wonderful job last year and i want to keep the tradition.

Answers:
Is there any way you can talk to the former party planner and ask her for some tips? For parties, you should ask people for R.S.V.P.'s, even if only through e-mail, so that you know how many to plan for. Our office mgr does this and it is simple to just reply to her e-mail and say "I'll be there with my husband."

Here is a recipe from Weight Watchers for holiday punch:

Ingredients

4 cup Schweppes Diet Ginger Ale, or equivalent product
4 cup grapefruit-mango juice
2 2/3 Tbsp frozen orange juice concentrate, thawed
4 fl oz rum, preferably white, 80 proof
2 lime(s)
1 small grapefruit, red, sliced
1 orange(s), sliced

Instructions

Combine ginger ale, juice, concentrate, rum and juice of 1 lime.

Slice remaining lime. Garnish punch with sliced lime, grapefruit and orange. Yields eight 1-cup servings.

Alcohol or Non?

or..a minty holiday theme....(non alcoholic)

1 quart peppermint ice cream
1 cup cold milk
2 liters ginger ale, chilled
DIRECTIONS
Place ice cream in a punch bowl, and allow to soften slightly. Blend in milk and ginger ale. Stir until frothy. Serve at once, or keep chilled until ready to serve.

As far as catering..get your budget and work with the caterer.....they should be able to help.

First of all - evaluate what made the former party planner's party so wonderful. Ask some people - usually there will be something that stands out - either great food, great party favors, great location (or bad food, etc). Now build on that.

Pick a theme and stick with it - is usually the most bang for your buck. That is what will stand out in people's minds - as far as judging whether you have really worked to put on a good party - or just thrown some chips in a bowl and opened a carton of french onion dip. LOL

Do you want elegant party, funky party, etc.? Once you have decided on that - then haunt the dollar stores, party stores, etc. to pick up decorations, paper goods, etc.

People always love a party favor or memento. Doesn't have to be much, but make them as pretty or as splashy as possible. Try to have some kind of activity or music going on.

Food wise - think - savory/sweet, hot/cold, rich/light. People love these contrasts.

Really easy punch - mock champagne. Large bottle of apple juice (ice cold), 2 liter bottle of ginger ale (ice cold). It will be pretty, refreshing and bubbly - looks like a million dollars -especially if you serve it in those champagne glasses. You can float a single strawberry in each glass - it will look like a million.

Good luck on your big party!

For a non-alcoholic punch use gingerale and lime sherbet. Have you tried asking last years planner for tips?
