Help- Glamorous 40th birthday bash- on a budget!?!
I am planning a 40th birthday bash for my aunt!.!.!.We are hoping to do a black, sort of "funeral" theme but not halloweeny!. We do want it to be a bit glamorous and sophisticated!.

I would suggest too that everybody should kinda like dress up like they are going to a funeral "party"!.
If you're on a budget you could organize a potluck dinner!. Make a list of what kind of food you want for that party and tell the guests to bring a certain dish (instead of a present maybe!?)
There is a company called "Oriental Trading" they have party supplies for small budgets!.
I would decorate the tables with dark colors, like black or dark blue!. Maybe if you have some money get some nice flower bouquetts to put on the tables!. If you don't have matching plates or silverware (and you don't mind using plastic and paper) oriental trading has those kinda things in every color you could imagine!.
Get some colored napkins too that go along with the table cloth!.
Instead of balloons you could get other kinds of decoration like colored beats or something!.

you may want to go with a more upbeat party theme!. Maybe a black tie affair with a really nice restaurant style sit down dinner!. Have friends cook really nice dinner like prime rib, pot roast, other kinds of roast, vegetables like mashed potatoes, green beans, mac and cheese, and a very nice cake for dessert!. Have Wine, Sweet tea for the non drinkers and water!. Have someone seat guests and have servers!. Have light background music!. Have entertainment like dancing, talents, or something light!. You can opt out of presents if you do not have the money!. Every guest chips in money or ingredients etc!. and their time setting up and cooking and it will not really cost that much depending on how many guests your invite!. That is why I said you can opt out of gifts and just tell guests to help with the party!. That will probably work out great!! And if you did not get it everyone dresses up really nice in their best fancy clothes!. You can even do a fashion show to show off all the beautiful outfits!.
