Food for a One year olds birthday party?!

Question:

Food for a One year olds birthday party?

It's going to be at 3pm, which is between lunch and dinner, so I don't think I should do a lot of food. I was thinking
Chips
Dip
Chex Mix
Peanuts
Finger Sandwiches

But that's all I can think of. What else do you suggest? Thanks! :0)

Answers:
Sounds good - minus the peanuts. Way too risky in regards to allergies/choking hazards. And cake! You definitely need a cake. There are lots of options out there for healthy/low-sugar content cakes. Have fun!

Mom to an almost 2 year old!

Here are some more ideas:
-Cheese platter
-Fruit salad
-Pretzels
You may want to skip the peanuts because some kids may have a peanut allergy. It's become more common these days. Also, the size of a peanut can be a choking hazard.

All that sounds pretty good. But, you want something that kids can snack on to. Not all 1 year olds can eat chips without choking. Maybe some animal crackers , grahm crackers, ceese nips. Things that get soft when they get wet and are easy for the kiddos to eat without having to chew alot since some of them probably don't have alot of teeth yet. Good luck.

Sounds great... eliminate the peanuts tho and put out marshmellows...

mini pizzas instead of finger sandwiches.

Good Luck

The finger sandwiches are good. The rest is a severe choking hazard for one year olds. Throw in some cupcakes, and fruit cups. You could save the rest of the list for the adults.

Instead of finger sandwiches, perhaps a crock pot dish to serve those who are hungry would be good. Italian sausage and sauce or meatballs. The crock pot can stay on low, and you won't have to worry about refilling or tinkering with it and you can enjoy your child's party.

first of all please forget the peanuts!
chocolate pudding, yogurt, chocolate ice cream, and spaghetti.

The food will be for the adults. The kids shouldn't have anything they normally wouldn't be eating at that time of day except the cake. Serve juice or milk, keep it simple. If you put out too much food, the mothers will have to be chasing their kids around to keep them from over-eating.

my daughter's first b day is in Sept.. so i am having the same problem as you are.. (planning the menu) i was thinking keeping it simple like stuff people can eat while standing or walking around..

fruit tray
chips
a few types of dip
cheese tray..
Italian beef sandwiches
cake
a small cake for my daughter
pasta salad
potato salad
relish tray ( olives, pickles)
veggie tray with raw veggies
that is what i have so far.. i have like 50 adults coming and not that many children...
have fun and Happy B Day to your little one!

Fruit! You really should have a fruit salad of some kind. Here is one recipe you can try:

Seven-Fruit Salad
? 1/2 cup lime juice
? 1 pint blueberries
? 1/2 cup water
? 1 pint fresh strawberries, sliced
? 1/2 cup sugar
? 1 1/2 cups watermelon balls
? 2 medium nectarines, thinly sliced
? 1 cup green grapes
? 1 large banana, thinly sliced
? 1 kiwifruit, peeled and chopped

In a bowl, combine the lime juice, water and sugar; stir until sugar is dissolved. Add nectarines and banana; toss to coat. In a 2-1/2 qt. glass bowl, combine the remaining fruits. Add nectarine mixture; stir gently. Cover and refrigerate for 1 hour.

Soft messy food for the bambinos, Valium for the parents.
