Any ideas for a pool party?!

Question:

Any ideas for a pool party?

There will be about 70 people, and about 20 kids will go swimming. The rest are adults.

We're planning to have a barbeque, but what should we serve as appetizers?
Decoration ideas?

Any ideas you have, please tell me :)

I threw a pool party last summer but not with as many guests. it was for my best friend's going away party, she was moving to Alaska. Anyhoo I decided on the unoriginal yet entertaining luau theme. I bought tiki torches and spaced them out along the perimiter of the pool. I also hung up some paper chinese laterns in the yard area. I bough some heavy duty rope and had my boyfriend string it up cross wise from 4 larger trees in the yard and I then ran white christmas lights along the rope and in the lanterns. It definitely looked really cool. You should decorate the tables with some bright and festive tableclothes, along with bright paper napkins, plates, and even plastic serving ware. In the center you could put a hula girl or I had vases filled with sand and sea shells, surrounded by flower leis. I also gave everyone a lei when they showed up. I had let everyone in on the theme and the adults dressed very festive.

As for food and drink I rocked the barbeque too. As for apetizers, I served fruit kabobs with a yogurt dipping sauce, grilled shrimp on skewers marinated in a citrus glaze, various dips, chips, cheese and crackers. In buying cheeses, get different textures so your friends can try out newer things. As for beverages, everyone brought beer and wine, but I had alcohol for the makings of mai tais and blue hawaiians. Make sure you get cherries, orange slices, and umbrellas for the drinks. It will really pull everything together.

Hope this helps and good luck with your party!

I hosted a pool party not to long ago, and we had a Hawaiian theme, it wasn't very expensive and everyone said that they loved it, we put Hawaiian lays on all the tables with candles, we floated fake flowers in the pool until everyone got in, and then we made a game of getting the flowers out,by telling all the kids that the one who got the most flowers would get to go first at the next game, we served fresh fruit and finger foods for appetizers, also we asked everyone to wear Hawaiian clothes like shirts or dresses etc. we played Hawaiian music and bbq'ed sweet-n-sour pork kabobs etc. we also decorated the serving tables with grass skirts and had umbrellas for the drinks
