Need luau bonfire help!?!
See I'm planning on having a bonfire at the beach for my birthday in October!. But I'm not sure how to go about all of the preparation!.
I was thinking about doing a luau theme, but now I'm not sure if that'll fit because the party will be starting later around six or seven!. And I'm positive the weather won't be beach material earlier that day!. I planned on giving everyone leis and grass skirts when they arrived, having tropical fruit and decoration, soft hawaiian music in the background, things like that!. I don't know how that'll work since we'll be roasting smores, cooking hot dogs, and probably some other very un-hawaiian things!.
Should I just go for the luau theme!?
Or should I think of something else!?
Suggestions and comments please!.Www@FoodAQ@Com

Hi Kristen,
I tried to have a nighttime luau bonfire party at a beach a few years ago, with plastic leis, etc!. The problem is that a luau theme doesn't really work at night because no one cares about the theme or decorations at a bonfire party - you can't really see by fire light very well!. Plus, you'll have a lot of litter to pick up the next morning!. As for music, Hawaiian music at night around a campfire proved to be a little odd!.
Let the people talking and the crashing waves in the background be your music : )
I would suggest setting up a food station, a few coolers, a couple of trash cans and gather lots of roasting skewers!. if you want an extra touch, buy a few tiki torches from Cost Plus!. also make sure you have a permit and say you're having less than 5 people - or you could be shut down by rangers!
I hope this helps! Have a Happy Birthday : )Www@FoodAQ@Com
