Suggestions for fundraiser dinner?!

Question:

Suggestions for fundraiser dinner?

We have done the spaghetti DInner more then enough times and I was wondering if anyone else did anything different. We usually charge $5 a person and $20 for a family of 4 or more. We get the items donated for the food and such so it can't be too expensive. Like fried chicken would just cost too much! By the way... It is for a church! Thanks!!

I just did the food for a Tex Mex theme fundraiser for about 150 people. We had Picadillo (cuban) Beef to make wraps, tacos or salads, Grilled Tequilla Lime Chicken Breast, Refried beans and all the usual side dishes like roasted corn salad and roasted peppers and onions, rice, plus a regular salad bar and desert bar. Sold wine (sangria) and beer (corona).

We changed the format this year from the traditional Spaghetti dinner and we were worried it wouldn't go over well. We even made some spaghetti and sauce for the traditionalists, but everything was a hit!

I dig potluck dinners, where everyone brings a dish and a donation and you get to try everyone's home cookin'.

spaghetti dinner with garlic bread and salad that's what my church does or sometimes they do vegetable soup roll and a salad like macaroni or applesauce

We've always done bbq chicken (legs quarters) potato salad, garlic bread, and baked beans. It's pretty cheap and popular.

Sub sandwich slices, chips, fruit salad

beef and veggie stew
tuna casserole
chil and garlic bread

Pancakes, waffles, with diverse toppings for a fundraiser before Sunday morning church services. Serve with coffee, juice, and some fresh fruit.

Good old homemade meatloaf, real mashed potatoes, and honey-glazed carrots, with homemade pies and cakes for dessert. Serve with iced tea and coffee.

Meatloaf to serve 8:
2 lb. lean ground beef
1 pkg. (6 oz.) STOVE TOP Stuffing Mix for Chicken
1 cup water
2 eggs, lightly beaten
2 tsp. ketsup
1/2 tsp. dried thyme
1/2 cup each minced onion & thinly sliced celery. Bake at 350 degrees for one hour and fifteen minutes.

Mashed Potatoes for 8:

2 large russet potatoes, peeled and cut in about 10 pieces each
1 tsp salt
1 lg. clove garlic
Cover with a lid and boil until tender with enough water to cover the potatoes. When tender, drain in a colinder and put potatoes back into the pot and add 1/2 stick butter and 1/2 cup warmed whole milk. Leave the garlic in for flavor. Season with salt (start with 1/2 tsp, first, and then add more if necessary. Add a little bit of white or black pepper. Beat with a hand-held mixer until fluffy.

Honey-Glazed Carrots for 8:

1 - 1 1/2 lg. carrots per person
peel, slice and add enough water to pot to cover carrots. Add 1 tsp. salt. Drain when tender. Add carrots back to pot and add 1/4 stick butter, 1 1/2 Tablespoons of honey, and 1 1 tsp. fresh lemon juice. Mix and adjust seasonings for salt and pepper. Sprinkle with fresh chopped Italian parsely right before serving.

Without the pies and cakes and purchasing items in bulk this should run you about $12.00 - $14.00 for eight people.

Also, buy a few loaves of white bread and some spreadable margarine. Make homemade meatloaf sandwiches with any leftovers for the church members for the next day. Sell them for .50 or more each.

Our band and orchestra builders used to do a chili supper. You got chili, crackers, drink and dessert.
The local churches do fish fries, so do the baseball teams. The Mason's and one church do a roast beef supper, several charities do pancake breakfasts.
Our church did salad luncheons, the desserts and most of the salads were donated, the church bought some of the salads, and the drinks.
And the Greek orthodox Catholic church does a greek fest. Entertainment, and greek food, adn greek crafts.. They really advertise, and the whole world goes there to eat.
Most of them took the opportunity to have a craft bazaar and raffles during the event. One local church had a meal, asked for donations from local businesses, and raffled off decorated Xmas trees, of all sizes and themes. The reward for the businesses was a big sign in front of the tree with their name, and the names were in the brochures, and on advertising. If memory serves, there were seven trees, and you had to pick which one you wanted to win, or buy tickets for all seven. I think they had a turkey dinner, and they had a craft bazaar, too. Some of the trees were a little, well, bare, but it was a charity event.
Hope this helps.

The local church just had a salad lunch--all kinds of salads and a dessert fr a mere $7.00---boy is it a hit---this was their 10 year. You know for a dinner how about chicken and dumplings or a pot of chili with small salad and corn bread --cookies as the dessert? You can do stew and biscuits----comfort foods for a dinner..Blessings
