Anyone have ideas??!

Question:

Anyone have ideas??

I am looking for some suggestions for planning my mom 50th birthday party.

Answers:
No matter what you do she will remember it forever... remember at her age she has experienced so much so it will not be hard to please her no matter what the theme of your party.

Take your Mom and her friends out to dinner

Treat her like a queen, have a special place for her to sit, invite all her special friends, have all her favorite foods. Have a "formal" sit down dinner or you could have a "red hat" party!

have a big backyard bbq (lots of meat, side dishes, beverages and fruit). do a casino theme. play cards, dominoes, and roulette. or you can do a hawaiian luau and wear grass skirts and stuff. roast a whole pig or something. make sure you invite all of the family and friends and record it for memories. make sure she has a money tree too.

I threw a 50th surprise party for my mother just last month. I went with a queen for the day theme.

My mother was the last of 10 children, so she had never had a real birthday party, so I went a little over the top, perhaps you can get some ideas from what I did.

I was a little confused about catering or not. I decided not to despite my about 75 person guest list. We really like home cooked food. I basically ended up making a "clambake". Everyone loved it. Generally in a clam or lobster bake there is chicken, sausage, corn and potatoes. I did them all. The lobster tended to be a little bit expensive, but the food for everyone still ended up being less than $1000. I bought 75 ears of corn and just threw them on the grill in the husks, wrapped 75 potatoes in foil paper, about 5 bags of frozen chicken (I generally don't buy these, but for grilled chicken they are fine), 10 links of sausage, 10 dozen clams and 30 whole lobsters.

For decorations I did everything in jewel tones for the queen. I actaully found it less expensive to buy sheets than table clothes, especially since I wasn't really interested in dry cleaning all those tableclothes. I actually found them on ebay for less than $5 a piece in royal blue, purple, gold, and burgandy. Just the top sheet : ) In the middle of the tables I alternated beta fish in bowls and candles. I covered one of my living room chairs with a few tableclothes and surrounded it with plastic garden bowls (I bought them at walmart for about $10) filled with plastic "gem" stones, water and floating candles. I also bought a ton of jewel toned balloons and had them floating around.

For music, I made 5 CD's that I put in the changer of music that I knew that she really liked. It took about a day to get it all done, but it was worth it in the end to watch her break into the shuffle.

The most important thing is that you're mother has a blast.

If your mom has had an active life, I'd do a "This is Your Life" theme. It can be from childhood memories, photos, recorded voice messages put into a power point presentation or cam corder set up.
It can be simple involving immed family with personalized messages to Mom about the influence she's had in their lives to elaborate by finding and bringing in folks or relatives she hasn't seen in years. The conversation will probably be like I remember when... but that's usually the best story telling of family history you can have. Record it all!!

An easy party to plan would be a 50's party! Have everyone dress in 50's era clothing, have hoola hoops, even have a limbo contest, play 50's music (oldies)! Cook out hamburgers, hot dogs on grill! Since she was born in 50's she might really enjoy this!

For a theme, how about the era when she was a teenager? Or even the era she was born in? Pick the music, and match the food to the era. Could be fun and nostalgic for her!

Your mom's problem old school, why don't you have black & white ball or old school steppin party with old school music.
