Any ideas for a chinese theme buffet?!

Question:

Any ideas for a chinese theme buffet?

My sister will be coming home soon from China with her first adopted child. We are celebrating his arrival with a "Welcome Home" party for everyone to meet him and I would like to make it an "east meets west" themed event. Does anyone have ideas on what to serve for asian inspired food? It will be a Sunday afternoon, so I am trying to keep it somewhat light. Some ideas I've had...chinese spareribs, fried rice, chinese chicken salad, beef satay....Any ideas on make-ahead food that's easy to warm up or serve at room temperature would be great-I'll be preparing for 75-100 people and do have some catering experience. Thanks!

Answers:
Asian Lettuce Wraps
Egg Rolls
Crab Rangoons
Chinese Fried Dumplings
Terriyaki Chicken on a stick
Sliced oranges
Mongolian beef or chicken
DO NOT forget fortune cookies & chop stix
Sushi is japanese but very popular right now, and publix does an excellent job with those trays. If you dont wrap your own.
Decorate with lanterns, Asian umbrellas or fans, check local party stores for chinese lettered party-ware, plates, cups etc....Give each guests a lucky bamboo with a ribbon on it with info. about the new family member.

CONGRATULATIONS AND HAVE FUN

Noodle bar!!

You make a bunch of chinese style noodles and leave them in a bowl at the start of the "bar".

You include a bunch of little bowls with other items in them people can put in their noodles. Cut up chicken, little shrimp, pea pods, and anything else you want. This can make allot of people happy without making several dishes. It can essentially be multiple dishes that use up less space and take less time to produce. Its also a good compliment to what your already looking at. Also feel free to stray away from traditional chinese fair and toss in a bowl of peanuts for that Vietnimese flair, or similar items traditional served with noodles in other asian countries.

Uhhh. I'm not so sure that American Chinese restaurant food has ANYTHING to do with actual Chinese fare. My brother went to Japan for 3 months last year and he said that what we see on a Japanese restaurant menu has very little to do with real Japanese food.

Find someone who has been there or find a traditional Chinese cookbook!

Good luck! And congratulations on your Nephew!

Congrad's to your sis and you family on the new arrival! Enjoy him to the fullest!

First of all, satays are southeast Asian, not Chinese. Second, how about some soup? Egg flower, hot and sour (my favorite), or wonton.
