Suprise 50th birthday party ideas?!

Question:

Suprise 50th birthday party ideas?

Does anyone have any ideas or tips on throwing a 50th birthday themed party? It is a suprise for my mother and its just going to be girls. I was hoping I could find tips and ideas on decorations, food, anything helps. Thanks!
p.s. this is my 1st party I've thrown by myself (and it makes it a bit tougher since I gotta keep it a secret from my mom-who usually helps out with stuff).

Answers:
Do you know she would like a surprise party? I am 53 years old and would
be not at all pleasantly surprised by a surpise party. Take her out for a quiet
meal. She won't have to do the preparation or the clean up. That will make
her day. It would mine.

I'll be 49 11/25 can I give you a lap dance?
Happy B Day!

Theme ideas:

~Hawaiin theme with a luau and fun cocktails.
~1956 theme with lots of 50's era nostalgia.
~Fancy cocktail party with cool drinks and lots of tidbits and hor' dourves.

i would have a spit roast or something
have baked potatoes
gravy
salads
corn?
french bread stick

make some punch

a theme would be good.... maybe something like the year the person was born?

i would also have some food platters
cheese
biscuits
kabana
picked onions
carrot
celery
etc.......
make a cake or order one!
i reckon u should hire a jute box or something along those lines.....

maybe have a big photo bored of the persons life (pics with family and friends)

We threw a surprise party for a close friend for 50 guests. Each guest was supposed to bring something symbolic (not the present) of the person and we had 50 little gifts to present to him. They were little things like stocking fillers or stuff that reminded us of him. It was hilarious having the guests pay a tribute to him one by one.
For food, the theme was nostalgia, so we brought food that people ate in the 1950s (when he was born).. Party turned out really well!!
Good luck!!

Don't go over board and keep it simple for yourself. The easier for you the better. and you won't get frustrated. You can go just about anywhere to get decorations. Walmart, Spencers, $ Store, etc. I had one for my Mom when she turned 50 and I went with a black theme. ( Some things said over the hill, This is the big one.) You can order the Cake and pick out the theme you want on it too. I had a bunch of pictures in a photo album from the time she was born to the present. I left space in it so she could add her party photos. For the food you can have just about anything and it depends on how many people you are having. Have sandwiches, cracker and cheese, something she likes just make it simple and easy. Play games guess things about the birthday girl that maybe only you know or certain people would know. Like maybe a nickname, her first kiss, first boyfriend, favorite color etc. and put her in the center of attention. What woman doesn't like to be center of attention. Maybe get her a ribbon for her to wear or a flower. Have a place for her gifts, maybe a guest book and someone can write what that person got her beside there name. Have thank you cards give everyone that comes the envelope and have them write there name and address on it so she can send them a thank you card. Make it simple and easy no stress on you. I get out of control when I have parties. Everyone always tells me I have too much food. Better to much then not enough. LOL

Wow. I am having a party for all girls as well, for my mom! I am having a limo take 10 of her closest girlfriends & family out for dinner and dancing. It's a total surprise and I mailed invites 1 month in advance just to be sure all could attend. The invites were handmade and I used a rhyme to give out the party details. For example, I instructed everyone to wear all black. For my mom, I got a custom white t-shirt that says, "Fifty is the new thirty." Her friends are getting her a red hat for the red hat society. I also found red boas with black died tips at Spencer's gifts for $5 each (on sale due to Halloween) that each of us will wear. I'm having drinks and a snack in the limo. I asked everyone to contribute $30 towards the ride which is about half of the cost. I am buying dinner as well and I contacted the nightclub to get the group in for free. I am working on doing some type of photo project (a photo book, personalized champagne bottle, etc.). I plan on burning some tunes I know she likes to play in the limo. My mom is like me and enjoys surprises...I'm so excited to honor her that night!! Have fun! I'd get a cookbook that has some appetizers and desserts that are pretty easy to make...especially anything you can make ahead (cookies can easily be frozen and thawed for a party, bagged vegetables and cut up fruit make party trays easy). Make one or two specialty drinks in pitchers and have bottled beer, waters, and wine on ice so everyone can help themselves.
