Happy Birthday! My oldest daughter is an Oct!. birthday and we often had Halloween themed parties!. One year, when we lived in Missouri, we went spelunking (exploring a cave by lantern light--spooky!!) One year we had a haunted basement!. One year, a costume party!.
For the sleepover, ghost stories in the dark are fun, as are scary movies (look for some of the oldies: Dracula, Frankenstein, Curse of the Demon!.!.!.check out Netflix if your parents are members)!. For a boy/girl activity, how about a halloween-themed scavenger hunt!? You can get tapes of spooky sound effects, too, to play in the background while you tell ghost stories!. (Check the library for ghost story books)!.
For decorations, yarn spider webs and black widow spiders made of wadded up black tissue paper with black pipe cleaner legs w/ red construction paper eyes and hour glass shapes!. You can make a cool "skeleton" of milk cartons and styrofoam sheets!. A large box from an appliance store can be cut and folded to make a coffin!. (You can ask at an appliance store for the box from a refridgerator--they'll probably give it to you for free!.)
