What time in the evening is a good starting time for a New Year's Eve party?!

Question:

What time in the evening is a good starting time for a New Year's Eve party?

Answers:
9:00 - after supper and people are ready for their evening cocktails and to get their groove on

9:00 pm, not too late, and there isnt so much time to wait for the new year and people wont get bored or tired

I would say 10 pm. It's the perfect time because it's not too much time before midnight but enough time to party and allow people to come in late.

9-10pm

If you're serving food: 8 PM

Other than that: 9 PM. That way people have time to "party" without having time to get totally trashed and passing out before the ball drops (or worse: throwing up on your carpet/posessions).

Around 8 is perfect. That way if you have people who want to get home to family or children, they can still socialize & not be out too late, plus your die hard partiers will stop by for a while, then hit the clubs!!

9:00 is perfect. Everyone has probably gone out for dinner or eaten already so you don't have to make much food. The amount of time to wait is good, gives 'em a chance to relax & have a cocktail or some champaigne (get 'em in a festive mood!). You could make it a champaigne & dessert party with a beautiful fruit & dip (like chocolat) platter & some beautiful bakery bought little (like finger food) pastries. Maybe some sorbet. Someboby stop me!! Happy New Year!!!!

If you're serving dinner 8-8:30. If you are not , then around 9-10.

9 is the perfect time. Three hours before midnight, and ample time for drinks and or hors d'oeuvres to be served and the party vibe ( liquor buzz ;) to kick in.

i say 9ish. people come in have some drinks and talk to get comfortable

Probably around 9:30 or 10:00, for a late nite party. Right after dinner for a midnight party.

I think 8 is good enough, people can have a little food bfr they start drinking, have plenty of snacks and not a lot of alcohol so everyone would be OK by 12!

My usually starts at 4pm on Dec. 26th. Gives people plenty of time to relax and enjoy themselves.

9PM

Around 8 or 9 is good, so you can get settled in, and have some drinks or food before it gets too close to midnight.

8:00 at night

If you are doing dinner I would say about 7 or 8.

It depends on what kind of activities you are hosting.

We always have a bunko/karaoke party, to get the game done at a reasonable hour, we begin at 7:00. If you are doing appetizers and mingling, I would start at 8:00. If you're just have cocktales and ringing in the New Year, 9:00.
