I am having a new year's eve party (for about 100) any ideas for a theme?
I want to do something a bit different, not fancy dress, but something that is easy for people to do and I want to tie in some entertainment (and decoration) along the same lines as the theme, also ideas for "finger buffet" style food would be helpful. Many thanks.

Speaking of New Year's Eve, how about Adam and Eve, lol? As for the food, serve lots of apples. As for the decoration, surround the place with lots of plants and greenery. Get an apple tree and a snake. Oh yes, place the tree in a dark room, so that you can get a shiny light to shine over the tree only. I think it'll be extremely funny. To spice up the party, go nude, or if you want to be modest, go nude but only cover your private parts (and for the women, their breasts) in fig leaves. If you don't want to show your flesh, then wear a green, non-protuding dress covered in leaves. It'll kinda ruin the theme, though, so I would recommend the first two suggestions. Nevertheless I'm sure the party will go down very well.
james bond, people just need to dress smart, the music is already there and you can have fun with plastic guns etc

oooh a theme, did you watch the mtv europe music awards, thier them was cool, a healthy future theme, and you could have posters up saying, take the plugs out of sockets when your finished with them, and enviromentle friendly, and it could be all sexy like(the colours) and for the food, go all out! im talking about lobster and cavier, oooh and maybe sushi? ooo yeh and some lamb, or if your a vegie, ooo spring rolls but without the meat, or stir fry(vegies) yeh yeh that sound yummy and cool. good luck!
Its kinda fancy dress. Come to the party as the person you'd most liked to have been.Instant conversation and through out the night the person with the most persausive argument wins the prize.
You might want to come as a pro footballer,a singer, the bank manager, the owner of a chain of hotels, you have to convince everyone you had a chance but didn't get that break?

Hollywood Glamour - dress up as your favourtie Hollywood character
Do a "Worst Yearbook Picture" theme where everyone gets to recreate their most horrible picture from whatever decade and laugh about it. You can decorate with various decade themes. For the finger buffet, get some taquitos from Costco, chips and dip of course, potstickers, veggie platter, stuffed mushrooms (variety).

Just an idea Pick a letter from the Alphabet and Theme it on that letter. To make it even more interesting how bout making some forfeits and put them in a hat. The decoration would be part of that letter. Just do the normal style buffet including Turkey sandwiches. Well hope it goes well.
Everyone must dress in silver or gold and all decorations must be in silver and gold. Buffet food, there is so much to choose from, probably easier to buy a book for some ideas.
In these times of war a peace theme would fit all right, people would dress white clothes and the music could be anyone but those that incites violence. It would be cool.
Why not ask everyone to come as their favorite character from a movie or fairy tale, etc.,,Dorothy from wizard of Oz, pirate from the pirates of caribbean,etc. and have stuff that the food sits on that ties in with the movie themes or have a certain time period everyone should come dressed as and use props that reflect that time period...
1920s is always a fun one to do, and quite easy as well as glamourous. Women can then do feather boas, long cigarette filters, 1920s cocktail dresses.
Men can either so the usual black tie with some 1920s accessories, or put on a pinstripe with spats and go as a gangster.
Another one which I think is fun and easy to do is a "fete blanche". Everything white!!

swinging goes down well.. pop everyones name in a hat and at random draw them out and let the jollies begin

how about a naturist theme everyone could cumm in the buff for the buffet lol.
The Scarlet and the Black (Stendahl's novel) is a more original theme than black and white and easier (for the chaps anyway) than silver and gold.
Also, you could do some (or all) red food, serve red wine, use red balloons etc.
Sorry I can't help with the finger buffet, for some reason my mind will not move on from tomatoes. And liquorice allsorts. Oh well, it's a great book, anyway !

Have a normal house party, beers in the fridge, buffet food, good music. what could be better?
Why not try a murder mystery. You can organise a group to come to your home/location (if you can afford it) or buy a boxed version but guessing on the numbers probably better for a professional service.
Anything that symbolizes a new beginning (except babies cos that's just wrong!) It should be something that shows the past is behind us & the future is what's important. Sooooo.....................

How about a cross dressing party? In other words the guys come as girls and vice versa. You could do some really "girly" nibbles and "macho" nibbles too.
You could hire a drag queen as entertainment.
Another good idea is an "Old Folks" party when everyone comes dressed as old people, you would be doing some charity shops a big favour on this one and you could do a "ration book" buffet and play old style music.
as the year will be 2007 a BOND themed party would be good! You could have the theme music too. You could get images from movies downloaded and printed out and make banners with them or stick them around the room. Try cookery books for food ideas!

I don't know if it is a good idea or not.I was thinking,why not organise a 'peace day' celebration.That is if you are inviting friends of different races.No fancy dresses but smart or better still can ask your guests to wear their own national costumes.As for the decorations,well you can apply the theme the same as the symbol of peace which is the white pigeons and white ribbons.You can ask your guests to write their new year(peace) resolution on a piece of white card (pigeons shaped) attached to a white ribbon,so everybody can hang the cards in a tree decorated with colourful lights with you leading them to do so.You can do this before the clock struck 12.00am.Then when it does struck twelve midnight,on the lights in the tree and at the same time you can set free a few white pigeons ( if possible the number of pigeons is the same as the number of the different races leaving in your country).
As for the songs/music,I am sure there's a lot of that kind of songs you can find in the store.Whether it's a sentimental,ballad,R&B,rock,hi... hop etc.There are a lot you can find easily.
And as for the food.You can either serve your national causine or a mixture of yours and a few others.That depends on the guests you are inviting.

the theme should be swingers, and the foods should include things that can be eaten off the body. you see people dont have to dress up they just have to wear somethin that is easy to get out of, well for decoration you could have bowls of condoms around the room, a variety of sex toys hanging from the walls and mood lighting. there is no need for entertainment as everyone will be entertaining each other, and as for the finger buffet, lol enough said! cheers have fun. that would be a new years eve party to remember. dont forget to send my invite ;)

Hawaiian or Caribean theme? Just need a little accessories/flowers for the guest . You need to heat the room thought will be nice in the middle of a cold winter night. Sea food snacks will be nice along with some cocktail perhaps.
