Does anyone have ideas for food for a b-day party ?
I am throwing myself a small birthday get together. There will be about 20 people or a little less. I need ideas on inexpensive food to serve.

Do what I did.. Make a huge pot of spaghetti and fry some wingettes. Tell your guests to bring their fave bottle of alcohol and you have a cool party going on.
Save yourself some money and trouble by serving a small number of hot orderves (finger foods). You can actually buy some of these premade at the store (either deli or frozen) or they are easy to make. Some examples: egg rolls, little spinch and filo triangles, biscuit wrapped franks (miniture), pizza rolls, stuffed mushrooms, etc etc. People like these and they are not that much. Get about four different kinds and put them out with some small (not dinner size) plastic plates (the smaller ones will fill up quicker and make folks think they are eating a lot). Aside from this, make a punch with a big block of ice because people will only need one kind of drink that way, not dozens of different kinds so it is nice, but cheaper in the long run. Set out some bowls with mixed nuts. People love those and the guys will fill up on it and be happy. Have fun!!
a keg and wings
Well if u want eesy homemade stuff then u an make lemonade with some of ur own flavor added into it and call it ur own creation! like, i made this red gadorade/lemonade combo and it was like a HIT! so...USE UR IMAGINATION! :D
I had one earlier this year and I went with hamburgers and chips, dip, an ice cream cake and drinks.
Serve a couple of stews/soups. Get two large heavy breads, cut, & coat with butter and cheese, then toast. Get some generic brand chips, and, instead of blue chesse or salsa, get some cream chesse and make your own dips with different spices. (Ginger and garlic was a hit at my last party, along with the honey & red pepper)
Get a pot and a bottle (64oz) of apple juice and make your own cider.
Good luck
The small foods are a good idea, and I always serve teriyaki chicken kabobs. They take some prep time, but it's always a hit. You can also make casserole dishes like lasagne or king ranch casserole that are filling, as in people won't eat too much, so make two big pans of each, it shouldn't cost more than $50 and take about three hours to prepare and cook.
hAVE A FONDUE THEME. do cheese, chocolate and a meet one and set out dippers. Never fails to please.
Here's what I did once and it was a smash (and cheap :))
You can do almost all of this the night before so you don't have be to spending your whole birthday in the kitchen when your guests are there and you should be having fun!
First, make a big batch of chili. If you can't make this yourself, ask a friend. Next, make up several bowls of condiments that your guests can add themselves-I put out shredded cheese (jack, cheddar (cheddar works better for the color effect) or both), chopped white onions, chopped green onions, sliced jalapenos (preferrably fresh), fresh cilantro, salsa, guacamole & sour cream.
Next, you can either buy or make cornbread. You can have them in squares or muffins or mini muffins (my choice if you can find them). Making them yourself is cheaper of course-depends on how much work you want to do. Arrange them all on a plate and cover.
Buy a bag of oyster crackers and Tortilla chips and put them in a bowl and cover tightly so they won't get stale.
On the day of your party, all you have to do is heat up the chili and put out all the goodies that you've prepared the night before! I also put out whatever hot sauce I have like tabasco, cholula, louisiana, etc.
Appetizer and meal all rolled into one and all the condiments are interchangeable. I think last time I did it all told it cost about 25$ for 15-20 people. It's all about the presentation!!
? Make little mini pizzas on tortillas
? Deviled eggs (super inexpensive and most people like them)
? Endive leafs stuffed with goat cheese (they'll think you're all Martha Stewart like and it is cheap)
? Dates stuffed with goat cheese.
? Tomato slices with a leaf of basil & a small slice of mozzarella cheese
? 7 layer dip and tortilla chips
? Mini cheese burgers on dinner rolls (cook the burgers in the oven all at once.
I hope this helps!
some of your favorite foods.
Just serve finger food. Mozerella sticks and marinara sauce, chicken fingers and ranch, a variety of grapes and cheeses with cute little colored toothpicks, and I 'm sure you can think of some more. They're pretty cheap if you buy them from Boston Market and grocery sotres. Small, but with a lot of it, it can fill you up pretty fast. For dessert, birthday cake of course! Or if you decide not to have one, you can buy a variety of mini cakes and fruit tarts from a nearby bakery.
