Any ideas for a "prison retirement party" centerpiece?
I'm planning my father's retirement party. He's retiring after working 30 years at a men's prison. Does anyone have any ideas for the centerpieces? The party is at a really nice hotel, so I want to keep it kind of elegant. He also loves The Three Stooges.

I would do balloons. Keep with a black and white prison theme and have the center pieces be a ball with a chain running from it and string 3 balloons at different heights coming out of the ball. All you need is 8 inch Styrofoam balls and spray paint them black and get some plastic chain from a party store. Sink a triangular shaped fishing sinker in the top of the Styrofoam ball and use fishing line to tie the balloons to the top of the sinker. That way it will look as if the balloons are just floating above the table. It is a great effect.

Do balls and chains! And put some fun flowers with it - not too much, but just enough to make it look cute. I think you could find some nice plastic balls with chains on them on the internet or at a party store.

Soap on a Rope? Just kidding. I've seen a pic of the Stooges in black & white striped prison garb.
Have the florist or a baker make your centerpiece or cake of the Three Stooges escaping from prison it could be titled PAROLE AT LAST.

Hmm depends how slapstick you want to make it...
Black and white stripes, chains, etc are of course comical, and some ideas (above) of the stooges in black and white striped jumpsuits are pretty cool. You may like to stick his head (picture) on to one of the stooges) to add a personal touch.
If you want a more classic feel, try spun toffee design - and to be crazy and way-out, you can create cages, or cases with items within/ under them (little prisons).
Flower arrangements are always a hit :)
