Question:

Whats an ideal starter if salmon is the main course for adinner party?

Answers:
hi ,well i will try to answer the question the best way .
firstly you need to think of the season ie if in the summer you would have a cold chilled starter like gazpacho or proscutio ham and melon,or in the winter like now i would have a mellow soup or a starter using cheese ie.gnocchi or fried mozzarella strips.
most important is that you don't repeat the ingredient .
i assume you are having salmon poached or grilled,if so my advice for a starter would be a asparagus tips with a sauce of creme fresh and chives, topped with shaved Parmesan cheese,
or if that don't take your fancy a pancake of oyster mushrooms thyme and a light bechemel sauce ,serve with roasted cherry tomatoes. looks fantastic on a plate.
top tip try cooking your salmon in tin foil parcels filled with fennel and dill, peppercorns and spring onion (un papilotte)its fab and when your guests open each one the vapour hits them and ...wow ......you are the hostess with the mostess!!!

hope that helps

Gary the chef

maybe a pumpkin soup or cold cucumber soup - light and fresh without being overpowering in taste

What about some brocolli and cheese soup with a salad.

I would suggest Brie with crackers and fruit.

A roasted Vegetable torte. Individual Puff Pastry cases topped with roasted veg of Toms/onions/peppers/aubergine and corgette. Drizzle with a little olive oil before serving.

Sliced assortment of cheeses and crisp fruit such as apples.

gazpacho soup

Creme de la merde soup with sweetcorn.

Lobster Chowder.
Or fish goujons with aioli
What time are you starting and when shall I come round?

I'd go with something like avocado or maybe a light fruit salad. Hope you have a great evening - good luck.

olives with olive oil and a touch of chilli- use toothpicks to eat.

For a 'winter' salmon dish choose a soup to start (something simple and light like veggie or carrot) or instead of soup how about moulles marriene? Remember to serve either of them with a warm crusty bread. For a 'summer' salmon dish go with the fish theme - prawn cocktail - to make it a bit more exciting just add a bit of fruit like melon balls. Too much fish??? Try a vegetable terrine served on a bed of crispy leaves. Pleeeeez do not listen to the people telling you to serve cheese and biscuits as a starter - they're best left for afters!

Buffalo Mozzarella and Fig Salad with olive oil dressing

A traditional Greek salad, dont miss the flight back from Athens !

something fishy like a sea food chowder of something refreshing like melon or fruit salad
*thinks*
ooh, ooh, prawn cocktail I know its very 80's but had it recently and its lovely with the pink sauce and lemon and lettuce as a base.

mixed baby greens salad w/ light vinaigrette, maybe some feta, some toasted almond slivers, some orange sections

Something cool and refreshing. A nice potato or a cold pasta salad, or any kind of salad can do well. I don't know about you, but usually when I eat fish I'd like a salad or pasta dish as well. Unless it's sushi.

A big juicy steak!! YUMMY

a clear soup with some hot crusty rolls

I would serve Asparagus Hollandaise:

Enjoy!

Maybe Melon with tropical fruit puree

stella, preferably out of a bottle.

How about baked Camembert cheese on a plate of salad or melon balls in port or melon on it's own. Avocado cut and sliced fan shaped served on a mixed leaf salad and topped with king prawns!

Aspargus tips with a poached egg on top and a sprinkle of parmasan. I nearly died at the thought of eating this but it was really nice and light. Soups fill you up too much. Or what about a fan of melon with a berry coulis . Put some sprigs of mint on for decoration! Happy eating !

Some pate with sliced thinly toast and a little salad.... Nice starter..

Parma Ham and Melon or pate with french toast
