If you are having a small private party where the caterer and his/her servers are only required to serve a preplanned menu, I wouldn't think about tipping at all. (Unless the service is great!)
If the private party requires the servers to work the crowd, I'd recommend throwing a little something extra in there for them, but it is not totally necessary - but considerate.
The caterer him/herself does not get tipped. You have already paid a fee for the service.

Yes, at least 10%. Remember, it's just like eating in a restaurant except they bring it to your home. If they bring the food and serve and clean up afterwards it should be a 15% tip. Enjoy not having to cook at this busy time of year!
There is no fixed requirement to tip but you might just want to show your appreciation by tipping if the caterer had done a good job for your party.
well i guess it all depends on how big the party is.... but usually you do not have to tip even at a restaurant. but it is just a courtesy gesture. i mean if you were in there shoes it will always be nice to receive something. it just says hey your doign a good job.
You don't tip the caterer, you tip the help.
If the help is the caterer, be advised that he has already tipped himself (perfectly acceptable) Look at your catering agreement the is sure to be at least a gratuity (described in some form or other) on the agreement you signed prior to service.

For me that depends on the service they provided if it's good and why not yes 10% ok,if they provide all you need on that party and with goodwork well done 15% be good,
NO. You don't tip a restaurant for a to-go order. You don't tip a caterer for doing the job you've paid him for. If the caterer does something extraordinary, some gesture may be appropriate, but in general, no tip is expected.
If tipping makes you feel good, go for it.
What about giving tips to the servers instead?
I'm a personal chef and when I cater small parties, I usually do the set up by myself as well as the clean-up. I've always been tipped. Sometimes when it's a larger party and they require servers they will tip the servers at the end of the night and I give whatever tip I received to the staff to split.
Bottom line is if the caterer is a small one or two person operation, then yes you tip them (even the owner). For larger catering operations you'd tip the server, delivery person, etc.
It's totally up to you. I worked at a Retirement Community as a waitress. When they would have special occassions, the senior residents adult children would attend. Sometimes they gave me tips!!! I really appreciated it!!!
