Any ideas for children's dinner, age 9 and 10?!

Question:

Any ideas for children's dinner, age 9 and 10?

I am getting worried about giving them too many chips and nuggets and fishfingers, it seems to be all they will eat, any ideas for something quick, simple and tasty please

Answers:
yes
for one idea
get the crescent roles ( the triangle ones ) and hot dogs,
have your children perform the putting together

PIGS IN THE BLANKET

You will each need a biscuit from a can of biscuits and one hot dog. Take the biscuit and flatten it with your hands. Try to make it into a rectangle so that it is bigger than your hot dog. After it is big enough, wrap your hot dog in the biscuit.
Place the pig in the blanket on a baking sheet. Carefully put the sheet into the oven. Cook for 10 to 12 minutes. Using the hot pads, take the sheet out of the oven. Carefully, using a spatula, remove the pig in the blanket and when it has cooled a little, eat your pig.

MINI PIGS IN A BLANKET

Lil Smokie Sausages
Pillsbury Crescent Rolls

Cut each crescent roll square into 4 pieces, wrap around sausage, cook according to crescent roll package directions. Serve with dipping sauces such as mustard, ketchup, sweet & sour sauce or whatever you like.

let the kids make them, and maybe slide the cookie sheet into the oven with your help of course

good luck

PIZZA

cheese on toast
baked beans
soup
boiled egg and soldiers yummy

French Fries Bacon Cheese Burger Make sure you ADD the fruit like grapes or more of jucies sometimes ratehr than soda or a taco.

Sloppy Joes! That was my fasvorite meal as a kid, its fun to eat and super fast and easy to make. You can get the Sloppy Joe mix all readyfor you from the grocery and then just add your cooked ground beef. Or you could make them Pogos (corn dogs).

Lasagna. You may think it's complicated to make. No way. Try it. It's good. Use the ready made sauces to mix with the meat/vegies and buy seperately the cheese sauce. Alternate and layer the instant lasagna sheets and bake them. This is just one of the few things you can do.

Spaghetti bolognese is quite quick to make.
Also pizza can be healthy if you make it or get a very thin crust one.
Egg solidgers and brown wholegrain bread, or wholegrain bread with beans.
Make chicken burgers that are just made of chicken breast but put them in pitta bread instead of an unhealthy white bun, fill with lettuce etc and make sure you grill the chicken breasts.
Try to grill or boil food instead of frying.

Pizza is a good answer, because you can control what goes in it., Just like all of the food items you listed. you can choose healthy versions of all products and be fine.
the problem will arise that when they are not around you they will eat those foods in restaurants.

when i was trying to loose weight, i realized that i care more about BBQ sauce and ketchup, and A1 steak sauce. which are not that bad for you. So use some good sauces and they will eat anything.

Best of luck

ravioli!!

You are right to be worried, fast food contains high levels of fat and salt.
Try meats cooked slowly (so they are tender and not hard to chew), with veggies ..go for colourful stuff (As an aside my kids ate "baby trees" for dinner for years before they knew it was called brocolli! lol), and instead of chips do boiled or mashed potatoes (not too much butter in them!). I sometimes do Saute potaoes which are bigger than chips so absorb less fat. If you part boil them and plunge them in hot fat (make sure you drain and dab them dry first) they absorb even less fat. fresh fruit jellies and salads make a healthy dessert. ...;

Mine like cheesy omlettes or cheesy pasta for a quick snack.

White fish in butter sauce with mash and sweetcorn is another favourite.

pastas or baked potato with a nice topping on it.Kids like rice and my kids always liked chicken curry with this.Make it mild for little tastebuds

pizza

Pasta, use a tomato based sauce and cut vegetable up finely in it. at that age my brother and I ate with our parents. We had the same meal as them or went hungry.

Macaroni with cheese, some carrot sticks to dip in the remaining cheese and grilled/roasted chicken. This should be simple and filling enough. Healthy too as the food is not fried

These are some recipes from the Kraft internet site. They give a lot of great ideas.
This is Creamy Chicken Rotini :

Maybe pasta, like spaghetti, or lasagna. Or just bacon & tomato :

If they like chicken fingers, just made them homemade, with white chiecken, and for the top, corn flakes. Or some pizza, still homemade, on Englis Muffin or Tortillas, to change. With cheese, ham, and vegetables, that's good. You can find a lot of good ides on internet, just typing what you like in google.

How about chicken wraps, give then some cooked strips of chicken, some fajita wraps and a selection of salad, strips of lettuce, cucumber, sliced tomato etc and let them make their own its fun and healthy. Also you could get a jar of mild salsa to put on rather than using sugary sauces or high in fat mayonnaise and to serve with them potato wedges, skin on, done in the oven with just a drizzle of olive oil.

try doing a tuna pasta salad or something that is like it

Soups and salads with milk
Mac and cheese with a vegtable
Hamburghs and fries
Tacos
spaghetti corn dogs and fries

Stir together and add 1/2 c. grated cheddar cheese
Place in casserole dish
Layer Tater Tots on top
