Get as much unpacking and cleaning done as possible!. Choose whether you are going to serve food to your guests, if so, its usually wise to have something you can prepare in advance and warm up when needed, like curry or chilli!. Go shopping for everything you need (drinks, food etc) well in advance and leave yourself plenty of time to get ready!. Would be a shame if you're house looked great and you didn't!Www@FoodAQ@Com

Make sure all the rooms are neat because they will want the tour!. Make sure enough toilet paper and soap and towels are out!. If you use guest towels, make sure everyone knows they can use them!. Sometimes people think they're too pretty to use!. If you expect a lot of people, you might want to set out a stack of really nice paper napkins instead!. Then you can just throw the stuff away!.

Set out food so people aren't bunched up in one place!. If you have a warm food, put that in the kitchen, say on your island!. Place appetizers, crudites, reslish trays, etc, on the dining room table!. Put bowls of chips, nuts, pretzels, scattered throughout so people can just grab a few!. Still put tongs or little spoons!. You can get plastic ones at party stores!. And even little paper cups for those kinds of things!. Put stacks of cocktail napkins around everywhere!.

Have at least 2 drink stations!. Depending on what you're serving, I would do it like this!. Have one table with a kind of punch made with ginger ale and fruit juices!. I don't know your friends so you could have one bowl alcoholic and one not!. Then another table with white wine and coolers of beer and wine coolers!. At a housewarming, it's not really proper to serve hard liquor!. But if you choose to serve alcohol, have something substantial to eat, at least some sandwiches, and make coffee before everyone leaves!. Unless they are just walking over!.

The purpose of all that is that you don't want bunches of people in one area and you want them to keep moving around, mingling!. You can help by continously watching and seeing if anyone is left alone!. Go get them and take them along while you start some conversations!. "This is my friend, Jan!. Jan, this is Ann!. Jan grows gorgeous roses, Ann!." And you know that Ann loves to garden so you are safe to leave them alone to talk and move on to someone else!.

Don't have super loud music at first!. Let people have a chance to talk a bit and get a bite to eat!. Then if you want to have dancing, and have the room, go ahead, but it usually isn't done at these kinds of parties!. Usually people stay for an hour or so and people arrive and leave over the course of about 4 hours!.

Don't open gifts in front of everyone!. Thank them and put them on a table or other place you designate for them!. You open them later and then write your thank you notes!. You might also call them but definitely write!.

Then just have fun!

I reread this and it sounded really stiff like some old ladies house! LOL This is just the way a housewarming party would be done but change it to suit your style and your friends!. Don't let the guys get in one room watching football while the girls hang out in the kitchen!. That's why I say to have drinks and food all over so people have to move around!.

Barnes and Noble sells those books of conversation starters at parties and I've used them for dinner parties I knew were going to be difficult!. Bosses, clients, and family all together!. The questions are interesting and really get people talking!. Good music is fine but not if everyone is just sitting there!. To me, when everyone is talking and laughing, then it's a good party!.Www@FoodAQ@Com

Organize and put away as much stuff as you can - if you have stuff still in boxes, designate one room to put all the boxes in, make sure that your kitchen and living areas are all unpacked!. Make a great playlist (I feel like good music makes a great party!), a big vat of chili with toppings and snacks, and make sure there are comfy places to sit done!. Www@FoodAQ@Com
