Any ideas on what to serve on X'mas other than Turkey?
Answers:
In my family we have beef tenderloin for christmas, turkey for thanksgiving, pork tenderloin roast for new years and lamb for easter.
Beef tenderloin with creamy horseradish is 100 times better than cold turkey sandwhiches in my opinion.
Or you could do a rib roast, beef ribeye roast, or prime rib roast. And with a simple roast all you need for sides is a potato dish (gratin, mashed, roasted), something green like green beans, asparagus, peas, salad or broccoli. Don't forget the rolls or biscuits or bread. And then something for dessert like a custard pie, cobbler, christmas cake. And don't forget the eggnog.

Ham and goose are also considered traditional meats.
My mother made shrimp cocktail and Delmonico steak for years.
you can serve ham, prime rib, pizza (thats fun when the whole family can get together and make it from scratch), or just about anything you want..it doesnt have to be traditional
I'm doing little Cornish hens..since there will only be a small gathering and they were only $2 each, everyone gets light ,dark and or leg..LOL.....less work for me and less cooking time...woohoooooo....HAPPY HOLIDAYS :o)
i like roast.
not only does it taste good, but the whole house smells good while its cooking.
and it warms the house up, too. haha :)
A baked ham is the traditional entree for Xmas. If religion forbids the eating of pork, then prime rib roast would be fine. Last word is, serve whatever u like, nothing is set in stone for any holiday.
The gathering of family and friends is more meaningful than what foods r being served.
A big seafood feast on the BBQ with BBQ'd vegetables in a butter and basil sauce. Make sure you put cracked pepper and garlic in it too.
Prawns, calamari and whole BBQ'd fish is excellent.
imagine a pailellia for christmas, with all the seafood you love, chicken, rice, corn, if done right this is THE awe inspiring dish of your dreams, if you are looking for something more traditional, my Nana always cooked a ham.
Ham, cornish hens, lamb, etc.

NAWWW! you should make a delicious ham for the main center and make awsome fixens! make comfort food! mac and cheese, green beans in bacon and onion, maybe even some red beans and rice with some sweet cornbread!
Well I'm not sure if ur Italian or not or if u like Italian food but what we do is eat macaroni with meatballs, sausage, salad, and bread. We just make a big Italian meal that's been a tradition of mine since before i was born. You gotta know a real good person that can cook it all, like the homemade sauce and stuff. Well that's just an idea but u can always go with ham or any other type of meat u like. Make it fun and different that's always a goer.
Good luck and Happy holidays!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!1
I would suggest a prime rib. You can still have mashed potatoes and gravy and any other traditional sides. I unfortunatley have to make turkey because I have an extra one from Thanksgiving, but I am thinking about a small prime Rib as well! (My family likes variety)
But just keep in mind it really doesn't matter what you serve, the holidays are not all about food, but about being together with your family and friends. I am sure they would enjoy anything you come up with.
Ham or Roasted leg of Lamb would be my favorite alternatives!
possible side dishes:
scallop potatoes
french style green beans (haricots verts) with slivered almonds
stuffed tomatoes a la Julia Child (stuffing of breadcrumbs, olive oil, shallots, garlic, parsley and parm cheese)
Cutler Casserole (broccoli w/ white cheese sauce and hardboiled sliced hard boiled eggs on top - YUM)
simple sliced carrots
roasted asparagus
garlic mashed potatoes
Desserts
apple or blueberry pie with vanilla ice cream
pecan pie
assorted cookies (chocolate chip, snickerdoodles etc)
Vegetable lasagna made with a creamy wine sauce, garlic bread and a big tossed salad with cukes, tomatoes, shredded carrots and onions.
