Ideas for a Classic Christmas Themed Dinner?!

Question:

Ideas for a Classic Christmas Themed Dinner?

I have to plan a theme Christmas dinner for our section at work for a progressive dinner. Our them was a southern Christmas, but that's been done so much. I want to make it more of a classic southern Christmas, like what you're Grandparents would have done. I need some ideas on what types of foods to have people bring or different decorations I can do. We're going to have a classic ham I know, but everything else is up in the air. I do need somthing that is easy to serve though and ideas that are ok for an office party. Thanks for all the help and have a Merry Christmas!

Answers:
Go to the Library and in the cooking section get a southern cookbook from the 1930's there will be recipes and party ideas - many of the Ladies Home Journal books were a wealth of entertainment tips as well as recipes. You could also check with your mom or grandparents for really authentic ideas. Have Fun!

prime rib roast with horseradish dressing
baked goose with oyster dressing
boiled potato's in a cream sauce
boiled cabbage cooked with ham
baked sweet carrots
spiced apples
corn pudding
warm apple pie
homemade biscuits and rolls
pecan pie
pound cake with fresh berries
vanilla ice-cream

Jello Salads, Oyster & White Bread Dressing, Micemeat (apple/raisin) pies, Cranberry Relish... Look at that Norman Rockwell painting of TG and see what's on their table! :-)

Macaroni and Cheese
Mashed Potatoes
Sweet potato pie
Hush puppies
Jello Fruit Salad

Decorations - trimmings from pine tree with velvet ribbon and pine cones.

do a North Pole theme and make every one dress up like elfs and serve elf food stuff like ploar bear, seal and cookies and milk of course

Serve Shoofly Pie and Apple Pandowdy.

Both are great Southern desserts and would go well with ham.

I would serve ham with a brown sugar glaze - along with buttermilk biscuits. Slice ham and serve each slice in a biscuit with the glaze along side.
