When serving a table in sa?!

Question:

When serving a table in sa?

i'm from south africa and we drive on the left do you still serve from the left

Answers:
Driving has nothing to do with serving food.

The reason for serving from the left is that most people are right handed and the water/wine glasses are on the right so serving from the right would impede their ability to continue on with their meal while you're serving.

Serving is supposed to be completely non-intrusive... so you're serving from the left where the patron is conducting the least amount of activity using their left hand.

I would think that the larger question would be: Do folks from SA use European eating methods? In other words... do they use a fork in the left hand and a knife in the right and then consume with the left hand without regard to handedness? If so, the rules might be different for serving than they are in USA. I would think whatever European guidelines are then... but since glasses are still presented on the right, I would think still serve from the left...

Perhaps it would be best to ask whoever has hired you - lol
