How much trouble can I get into if caught hosting a hotel party invovling underage drinking?!
So, am 19 and I decided that I want to have a hotel party and just have a bunch of my friends joining me!. We will probably be playing card games, and some drinking games!.!.!.etc!. Some of my friend are 21+, but some are underage!.
Our plan is to have fun and enjoy the night but we are gonna make sure not to be loud nor trash the room either!. The hotel thing seems like our best option since we don't have a house to party in!.
Personally, I am not goning to be drinking till later when some ppl leave or go to sleep, and probably me and a couple of friends will still be up!. I just want to make sure to be sober to take care of business (making sure not much noise is going on, and that no one goes crazy) and in case we get a visit by the cops for whatever reason!.
So back to my question, how much trouble would I be in, if the cops show up and am not drinking but I rented the room where my underage friends are drinking, and alcphol is clearly present!?
Again, I only picked a hotel coz I don't have a house to party in, and don't wanna deal with cleanning up any mess!.Www@FoodAQ@Com

You know what, this question is a bit trickier than most might think!. You are under 21!. You have friends that are over 21!. You have friends that are under 21!. Most of you will likely be drinking!. Most likely the one's who bought the alcohol are of legal age!. Therefore, those who supplied the alcohol are likely to get in much more trouble than you are!. Why!? The cops will likely tell your over 21 friends that since they are of legal age, they are responsible for the minor's!. Since alcohol is involved, and it is highly likely that the legal drinkers bought the alcohol to the party, they will get busted!. If you get in trouble you will likely get cited for minor in possession, as will all of your underage buddies!. The legal drinker's may get cited with contributing to the delinquency of a minor (supplying the alcohol)!. Depending on the attitude of the cop, he may try and find out who was the person who actually made the purchase of the alcohol and charge them!. But, the legal drinker's in all likelihood will be held responsible for your actions, whether or not you are the one who signed for the room or not!. I'm sure the hotel might have some obscure rule about the occupancy limit of the room and how many people you actually said would be there, and I'm sure they could point that out to the cop and get you charged with something but the over 21 crowd in that room will for sure get most of the citations!.
A previous answerer mentioned you would get charged with contributing to the delinquency of a minor!. You can't get charged with that if you are not of legal age to buy the alcohol to begin with!.
also, in some places you have to be 21 to sign for a hotel room, so you may want to check that out as well!. I had a friend who wanted to throw a New Years party much like you are talking about and he was under 21!. Where we live you have to be 21 to rent a room, so a friend that was 21 rented the room!. Sure enough the party got busted!. The person who rented the room was held responsible (BUT that was because he was 21)!. He got charged with contributing to a minor!. He was charged with four counts since there was 4 underage drinkers in the room!.Www@FoodAQ@Com

Well not only can you get arrested for underage drinking you can also be charged with serving to a minor contributing to the delinquency of a minor and in dangering the welfare of a minor, so in other words you could end up baying a butt load of fines and doing a lot of time in jail!. Which in the long run can affect your ability to get into college, to get college loans and grants as well as your ability to get employment and housing, so I would think long and hard about putting yourself in that situation!.
