Hors d'oeuvres ideas for my party tomorrow night?!

Question:

Hors d'oeuvres ideas for my party tomorrow night?

Having a small party tomorrow night (8-10 people) and need some ideas for hor d'oeuvres. So far: chips, salsa, guacamole, veggies and dip. I was thinking about doing little bite sized baked potatoes too. Need more suggestions for things that are easy to make, good for a college aged croud, and inexpensive! Also- I'm a vegetarian so nothing w/meat as I don't want to handle it. Thanks!

Answers:
Hummus and pita chips are good. There are lots of good hummus recipes on the 'net, too, and it's super easy to make. Then, you can just cut some pita into small wedges to serve with it.

How about mini veggie pizzas? You could use mini bagels as the "crusts," use raw dough and make your own crusts, or use a cookie cutter to cut small crusts out of a large, pre-made one.

Cheese cubes on toothpicks would be good -- and you could include a variety of cheeses.

How about veggie egg rolls? You could get them premade or make your own. If they're small, serve them whole, but if they'r elarger, cut them on a diagonal and serve with sweet and sour AND mustard.

Some grocery store bakeries have hors d'ouvres sized bread. You could make mini-sandwiches from it, or make larger sandwiches and use fancy shaped cookie cutters to make smaller ones.

Hope this helps -- and I hope your party is a raging success!

Get your favorite BBQ sause and a bag of Meatballs and stick it in a crock pot for 6 hours before the big party.....

The mini potatoes sound good, but would they be too hot to pick up?

Cheese Puffs with Salsa Cream Filling

Dough:
6 Tbsp. unsalted butter, cut into pieces
1 Tbsp. salt
freshly ground black pepper to taste
freshly grated nutmeg to taste (optional)
1 cup flour
4 large eggs plus 1 egg, lightly beaten, for the egg wash
1 cup plus 3 Tbsp. finely grated cheddar or swiss cheese

Filling:
One (11ounce) jar Newman's Own All Natural Bandito Salsa (mild, medium or hot)
8 oz. whipped cream cheese
Preheat oven to 425°F. Grease 2 baking sheets.

To make the dough: In a heavy 2-quart saucepan, combine 1 cup of water with the butter, salt, pepper, and nutmeg. When the butter has melted and the water is boiling, remove the pan from the heat and beat in the flour all at once with a wooden spoon. Stir vigorously until the mixture forms a ball and leaves the sides of the pan. (If it does not, return the pan to medium heat and beat vigorously for 1 to 2 minutes, until it forms a ball.) Off of the heat, beat in 4 eggs, 1 at a time, until each is thoroughly incorporated. Beat in the 1 cup of grated cheese.
Transfer the dough to a pastry bag fitted with a plain ?-inch tip. Pipe rounds on the prepared baking sheets, each about 1 inch in diameter, 1 inch high, and 2 inches apart. With a pastry brush, very carefully brush the tops of the rounds with some of the egg wash, being sure not to let any drip on the baking sheets. (It will act like glue and prevent the puffs from puffing.) Sprinkle the remaining cheese over the tops of the rounds.
Bake for 20 to 25 minutes, or until golden and crisp. Remove from the oven and turn the oven off. With the tip of a small, sharp knife, pierce the topside of each puff, then return the baking sheets to the oven to dry for 10 minutes. Remove and let cool on wire racks.

While the puffs are baking or as they cool, make the filling: Drain the salsa, then, in a bowl, combine the cream cheese with half of the drained salsa. Depending on how much of a salsa flavor you like, continue to add salsa to taste, blending it in well.
With a small, sharp knife, cut off the top half of the puffs. Spoon filling into each puff and place the tops of the puffs rakishly back on.

have a great party!!!

I don't think that everyone at your party is a vegetarian. You should consider serving some meat at the party. If you don't want to make it, you can always buy it. Try sushi, eggrolls, mini-sandwiches, ....

Grab a bag of Italian meatballs from freezer section of supermarket, bake as instructed. Meanwhile, heat up a bottle of chili sauce and two cups of grape jelly. Serve mixed together.
They go like hot cakes!!!

For something simple and light - Pineapple Cream Cheese Sandwiches. You take one bar of cream cheese and one Lg can of pineapple and mix together. Simple, easy, inexpensive and very good!

Go to a surplus store like Sam's & get the party bags of frozen mini quiches - the spinach is wonderful. They also have mini veggie pizza bites. A cheese ball made with shredded sharp cheddar, cream cheese, dried chives, a few good dashes of worchester sauce & a couple drops of hot sauce. Mix all together by hand, adding milk a teaspoon at a time til sticking together. Shape into a ball, or rectangle shape & cover with finely chopped pecans. Serve with assorted crackers & a small dish of spicy mustard. Garnish plate with fresh fruit such as grapes, strawberries, etc. It will be a hit!!

How about Ham Pin-wheels?

Buy:

thin sliced sandwich Ham
Cream Cheese
Horseradish

Mix 2 or 3 tablespoons of Horseradish into the Creamed Cheese.

Lay a piece of Ham out on a cutting board and spead Cream Cheese on it.... then roll Ham into a pinwheel. Cut into pieces 1/2" to 3/4" wide and place on serving plate.

For a decorative method, you can stick a toothpick in each pinwheel and place a stuffed Olive on the top of the toothpick.

Easy to make and delicious to eat.
