Help with a Chile Menu for my Son's 1st Birthday Party.?!

Question:

Help with a Chile Menu for my Son's 1st Birthday Party.?

Hi. Next week we are having close friends and family over to celebrate my Son's first Birthday. It is starting to get fallish-like here in Wisconsin, so I thought that serving chile might hit the spot. Could someone help with some ideas on what to serve with it. I think it would be good to have some type of sandwiches to complement the chile and we also need some ideas for the other kids, whose ages range from 1 to 10.) Thanks for your help!

Answers:
i serve mine with cornbread,
but toasted cheese sand would be great with chilie....

Chili for babies?
WAY too harsh on the digestive tract
they're going to be farting and loose pooping for days
I suggest something less spicy, with no beans

I usually serve grill cheese sandwhiches with chili - and kids love them too!

Cornbread goes great with chile! You can just use the store bought mix and add some Monterrey Jack cheese and a TB of sugar to each batch. Good stuff, have fun.

I would make some warm french bread and maybe have a few bowls with side items for the chili...oyster crackers, shredded cheese, onions, sour cream, maybe some cooked macaroni noodles. That way they can doctor up their chili to their own tastes.

grilled cheese sandwiches (just in case the chile is too hot !) hot dogs for the kids and get a pinata to keep em focused !

Do you mean Chili (spicey tomato based beef stew)?

1/2 c chili powder
5 ts ground cumin
4 1/2 ts dehydrated onion and garlic flakes
1 1/2 ts salt
1 1/2 ts paprika
red pepper; up to 2 ts (depending on your heat level)

Mix the spices together
Brown 2 lbs of beef (course ground or cubed)
Add 8oz tomato sauce, 16oz water, 2 tbsp masa floor, and spices.
Simmer for at least 30 minutes.

Chili is very versatile. Some suggestions...
- Serve with cornbread (the sweet southern type)
- Serve with tortillas, perhaps spread creamcheese on the tortillas and roll them up to help 'cool the mouth' of those not able to take the heat.
- Cheese and onions for toppings
- Serve over pasta or gniochi
- Serve over corn chips or fritos (kids love frito pies)

Cornbread? Baked mac and cheese? A cool salad, like potato or mac? Jello salad of some kind?

Just some ideas off the top of my head.

corn bread, rice, salad with the chile and cilantro, sour cream, and queso fresco as garnishes

for the kids, sandwiches would be good like pb&j, turkey, or burgers.

When I have a chili party we turn it into a chili boat party. That means sour cream, corn chips, cheese, onions, get the pic. like a taco salad in the restruants. Let everyone make there own.

does your son even like chile?

Sounds good with a crusty roll.

Corn Bread & Tortillas.
Hot Dogs in case they want chili dogs. That way the baby & other kids can eat the hot dog too.
Chips & Dips OR Potato Salad for those only wanting a hot dog.

Chips and dip
Rice
How about sloppy joes for the kids (not as spicy as the chili, and they wont feel left out)

I always have peanut butter sandwiches with my chile. Grilled cheese would be good also.
