Food for a small party?!

Question: Food for a small party!?
I had a similar question recently!.
I am having a small birthday party, just 5 friends!. We are going to eat lunch at my house then head to a movie!. I don't want to do: hot dogs, burgers, pizza, or normal birthday food!. I was thinking either something like a pick your toppings pizza bar or a bunch of finger food with something that we can still kind of make ourselves!? I want all the food to fit together in one theme (like no burritos with doritos)!. So if anyone could help! I have already decided on dessert!!

P!.S!. My birthday is in the fall so I don't want to do summer-like food!. Thanks!Www@FoodAQ@Com

Both ideas sound wonderful! Just make sure to make everything an easy clean up as you'll be heading off to the movies!.

Try to make a few make-ahead goodies to help ease the crunch!.

Finger sandwiches would easily solve this problem as you can make the fillings, etc!. ahead of time!. You can also slice the bread, set up the relish trays, prepare snackie foods ahead of time when planning a sandwich party!. My leanings are toward the sandwich affair for this reason!. Easy prep and easy clean up!.Www@FoodAQ@Com

As a variation on the pizza bar, you could have a Baked Potato Bar!. Make a big baked potato for everyone with dishes of toppings (cheese, chili, sour cream, salsa, bacon, veggies, etc!.!.!.) You could even have a fruit or veggie/dip platter with it then!.!.!.!.!.!. OR, you can do a big pot of chili with toppings to put on it, a pan of cornbread and a green saladWww@FoodAQ@Com

Build your own tacos!. Make 2-3 pounds of taco meat with the taco seasoning mix!. Set out crispy taco shells, soft tortillas, shredded lettuce, chopped tomatoes, salsa, shredded cheese, sour cream, refried beans!.

I just did a make your own panini party which was a lot of fun! It works well for a small group of people, since you won't get backed up having too many to cook at once!. Get a good quality loaf of Italian or French country bread at the bakery section of your supermarket and have them slice it for you!. Some ingredients you may use:

? Ricotta, Roasted Peppers
? Basil, Mozzarella, Tomato, Balsamic Vinegar
? Eggplant Caponata, Roasted Red Peppers, Goat Cheese
? Prosciutto, Goat Cheese, Arugula
? Pesto Mayonnaise, Chicken, Red Pepper
? Ham, Mushrooms, Gruyere
? Tomato, Mozzarella, Coppa Salami
? Ham, Gruyere, Tomato
? Mozzarella, Tomato, Pancetta
? Ham, Emmental Cheese, Basil
? Tuna, Olives, Anchovies
? Roasted Eggplant, Goat Cheese, Basil
? Tuna, Tomato, Olives, Mozzarella
? Gorgonzola, Red Wine Vinegar, Olive Oil, Mixed Greens

Arrange the different ingredients on trays and or bowls on a table and have people put their own sandwiches together!.

If you don't have a panini press, you can heat them like a grilled cheese sandwich in a large frying pan, either pressing down on the sandwich with a spatula, or if you can get a brick, wrap it in several layers of aluminum foil and place over the sandwich in the frying pan to press it down!.
