Have you ever heard of a potluck wedding?!

Question: Have you ever heard of a potluck wedding!?
Answers:
Well, I guess I'm trashy and tacky because my family did that for me!. I fixed most of the food myself but I gave money to my close relatives to buy what they needed to fix the rest of the food!. In spite of the "tackiness", everyone ate lots of food, danced till they were silly and lots of fun was had by all!. I even went around and served guests drinks and snacks!.!.!.boy am I tacky or what!?Www@FoodAQ@Com

I have heard of it, and experienced it with my brothers 2nd wedding!. I personally am not a fan, but it is a personal choice and my experience was a tasteless experience (re the food)!. My brother and sister in-law did not have the funds to provide a formal reception dinner, so they requested the immediate families in the area bring the menu items!. On this occasion, swedish meatballs, mostaccioli, sandwiches, etc!.!. on a hot day in a VFW hall with no AC did not make for a pleasant experience, but the bride and groom were excited and that is what mattered!.

Again, it is a matter of choice and personality!. Some will enjoy - some will think it was special, some will hate the idea!. The important factory is how the bride and groom feel (and that they are not just trying to be cheap)!.Www@FoodAQ@Com

Never heard of it but sounds like fun, though for my weeding one friend from church volunteer to make the rice, and other to cook the meat, we bought the ingredients but they coked it, and it was nice!.

i think a pot luck wedding may be a good idea, and will give more variety to the menu, just set some guidelines regarding what kind of food would you like as in mexican, Chinese or so, and will help your budget a lot!. i would say go for it!.Www@FoodAQ@Com

yes actually!. my parents had one and lots of people still talk about how fun it was!. everyone was instructed to bring the recipie for whatever they made as well so my parents had a cookbook of good recipies to take home at the end of the day too!. it was in a park and the next day they went back to the park, and brought all the leftovers from the day before and played vollyball and had a picnic!. honestly, it sounds like it was the perfect wedding, and they have been happily married for 33 yearsWww@FoodAQ@Com

if you mean the reception , yes i have!. my step sister had a small wedding and not alot of money!. since it was only family and friends going she asked them all to take an item for the dinner to save money!. i think it is a great idea!. you could get the bigger things, hams, turkeys!. guests take potato salad, coleslaw, sandwhiches or whatever!.and what a great way to save money!. your friends wont mind spending a few bucks to share your special day!. you could also set a gift limit of say 25$ to help make up for the money they will spend on the food!. great great great!.

them girls up there saying it is trashy and ghetto and trailer park wedding are a bunch of spoiled bitches!.ignore them and do what you can afford and what you will enjoy!.not everyone can afford a lavish reception and wedding as i guess them snobs can!.some people are so ignorant!.Www@FoodAQ@Com

Yes - and I have NEVER heard of anything more trashy!!!!!

Look - if you don't have money for a reception - invite ONLY family and close friends to a party that you can afford!. Don't invite people you can't feed - you just look trashy!!

Actually - that's why I eloped !. !. !.Www@FoodAQ@Com

Um!.!.!.no!. Trailerpark wedding!? I'm sorry, that was mean!. Seriously that is pretty tacky for a wedding!. Just have a small get together and have family cook if you are tight on cash but no potluck!.

For all you people who are mad at my answer!.!.!.lighten up!. A question was posed and opinions were requested!. You have your opinion and so do I!. I didn't give you thumbs down because you disagree with me!.!.!.sheesh!.Www@FoodAQ@Com

Unless the people invited were family and very close friends (and you know they're all good cooks) it would be better to serve just cake and punch at the reception and let it go at that!. Nobody says you have to have a big spread for your reception if you can't afford it!. Www@FoodAQ@Com

Sounds like a blast! I would participate in a heart beat!. The first thing I would do would be to give the new couple the dish my food came it!.!.!.!.so go buy a new pan/crockpot/whatever and take your food in it!.!.!.!.then it will be left for them to use in the years to come!.Www@FoodAQ@Com

Yes, My sister-in-law to be did this and it turned out very good!. Everyone brought food and then they put it in different platters themselves!. When I say everyone though it's mostly close guests and others!.!.!. But, it's a great way to feed everyone!Www@FoodAQ@Com

Yup, first saw it in action when I was a witness!. I know that most people don't like the idea at first, however, when you think of the huge savings, well, you get my drift!. Anyway, nothing tacky about it, just enjoy!.Www@FoodAQ@Com

In Utah when I was married (40 years ago) almost all Mormon weddings were "Pot Luck" and they were very well accepted and very well attended!.
